Talladega Nights

The other movie I watched last weekend was Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. This one’s easy. If you like Will Ferrell or are a Nascar fan with a good sense of humor you’ll like this movie. I happen to love Will Ferrell’s movies so I thought it was hysterical. As far as Will Ferrell’s movies go, it was really good, but not his best. He’s just going to have a hard time beating Old School. I need to watch that one again and post on it. I love that movie. The part where he gets hit with the tranquilizer is… right, Talladega Nights. Definitely better than Bewitched. If you know a little something about Nascar and its fans you’ll appreciate the movie even more. As I happen to live south of the Mason-Dixon line, I have seen the occasional race (just one or two, you understand).

This movie is filled with classic Will Ferrell material and memorable scenes. The part where Ricky Bobby kisses the gay frenchman (aren’t they all?) played by Sacha Baron Cohen (A.k.a., Ali G and Borat) is really rather uncomfortable. I really could have done without that part. I would much rather have seen the full shots from the scenes of Ricky Bobby’s wife and girlfriend flashing (both of whom are super hot). They only show them from behind or from the neck up. Dude, that’s weak. An obvious opportunity for gratuitous nudity lost. Mr. Ferrell I am highly disappointed. They should definitely be added to the director’s cut.

Other than the missing boobs, I think the other thing that really disappointed me was that alot of the funniest parts were all in the previews: running around the track in his underwear, the steak knife in the leg, wheelchair basketball. The dinner before the big race towards the beginning of the movie was very humorous. At that dinner when the kids are obnoxious to the grandfather, that probably would have been funnier if I didn’t have kids.As I said up top, If you like Will Ferrell you’ll like this movie. I also want to see his new movie in which he plays a male ice skater. It looks pretty good. I don’t know the name of it yet. I just saw the commercial for for the first time over the weekend. But the good news (so to speak) is that I’m sure I’ll get to see the commerical several hundred more times before the movie comes out. (Yes, I’m having a little trouble focusing today, leave me alone).

Summary: Classic Will Ferrell, very funny, could have used some (female) nudity. Watch it.
