Why am I not surprised with what came out on top of the box office this weekend? It looked awful to me and the critics agreed (Yahoo! Movies’ critics average: D+), yet here it is sitting at number 1. So without any further delay, here’s a round-up of this weekend’s movie box office top ten:

  1. Wild Hogs: $38,000,000
  2. Zodiac: $13,100,000
  3. Ghost Rider: $11,500,000
  4. Bridge to Terabithia: $8,600,000
  5. The Number 23: $7,000,000
  6. Norbit: $6,500,000
  7. Music and Lyrics: $4,900,000
  8. Black Snake Moan: $4,000,000
  9. Reno 911! Miami: $3,750,000
  10. Breach: $3,500,000

The support for rubbish like Wild Hogs really needs to end, America. This only sends the message to Hollywood that they don’t need to produce quality movies, with scripts, plots, and decent acting. At nearly $10 a seat, I just don’t understand why people would go see a movie like that. Maybe someone out there can explain it to me.

Obviously the box office abilities of movies these days have surprised me. To keep me from being caught so off guard I’d like to offer up a contest for each week. It’s very simple. Each week I’ll open a post for everyone to write in and tell me what they predict the #1 movie’s box office pull will be. You don’t even have to name the movie, just the $ amount for the top dog in the upcoming weekend. The entry closest to that dollar amount, without going over (Thanks Bob), will earn a link in our Blogroll back to his or her site for the rest of the week.

Sound good? Let me know.
