Not to be outdone by the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week, the History Channel has announced that this week is… BARBARIANS WEEK! It started Sunday night with the Dark Ages: 600 Years of Degenerate, Godless, Inhuman Behavior (Well I’m glad they didn’t sensationalize this show much), and then continues through out the week. I’m sitting in a hotel right now doing nothing so I just spent the past three hours watching, Barbarians-Vikings, Barbarians-Vandals, and Barbarians-Huns. Later this week if I remember to Tivo it while watching American Idol I can also be assaulted by bloodthirsty swarms of Goths, Franks, Saxons, Mongols, and Lombards (even I’ve never heard of them). Its nice to see the History channel has finally grown out of its all Nazis all the time phase and is actually showing something other than the 500th episode of Modern Marvels. Oops… I just checked the listings and yes on Wednesday night, they are showing Modern Marvels:Barbarian Battle Tech. Why am I not surprised. Over all I enjoyed my past three hours of raping, pillaging, and murder. This was an absolutely fascinating period of European history. Although the narration went a little overboard on the whole bloodthirsty slaughter, cunning cruelty, and ferocious swarming hordes bit. The recreated scenes you sort of make you feel like your watching Conan with Arnold Schwarzenegger (bad acting and everything), except this stuff really happened so you might actually learn something.
