John Walters, 60, the director of Hairspray is shifting his focus from being a cult filmmaker to focusing on projects for children. You mean like fixing up an old van so he can drive around and offer candy to kids? Look at that picture and try to tell me he doesn’t look like a character you’d expect to find on CSI or SVU.
Maybe John just means movies and television shows for kids. That shouldn’t seem surprising for someone who’s 1972 film “Pink Flamingos” ended with the cross-dressing lead character eating dog poo. Then there’s his 2004 movie, “A Dirty Shame” where a housewife becomes a sex addict after a head injury.
You’re probably thinking, “Sure, I can see the obvious connection from these to children’s movies.” Well John agrees with you:
“Children have always enjoyed my movies. They are just not allowed to watch any of them”
I’m sure plenty of those children have grown up just fine after years and years of therapy. Thanks John for making the world just that much more of a warm, fuzzy place!
