Negotiations are taking place for Cate Blanchett to join the cast of Indiana Jones 4: Raiders of the Retirement Home. Nothing is final yet, but her publicist confirmed ongoing negotiations to include her as Indiana’s love interest. Perhaps they’ll explain that part by using Indy’s senility setting in and him falling for a goblin, played by Blanchett.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Cate Blanchett is a good actress. Who else could have taken on the difficult role of Brad Pitt’s wife in Babel. She had to pretend to sleep in a bus, lie on the ground after being shot, then later lie on the floor and pretend to be passed out. Deep, deep acting chops here.
Filming should finally begin later this year after years and years of stalling. I believe this has been in the works for at least a decade now. Story and scripting issues held it back from approval by Steven Spielburg, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford. So if they film this year it should be ready for release sometime in 2008 or 2009. That will put it nearly 20 years after the third movie in the series, 1989’s The Last Crusade, and a whopping 27+ years since the original, Raiders of the Lost Ark, came out in 1981.
Harrison Ford will be turning 65 this summer, an age many consider the peak for globe travelling adventure seeking. Wait, did I say adventure seeking? I meant 65 is the perfect age for retirement and Medicare approval. I loved the original Indiana Jones movies, but come on, when you’re doing it at this stage it’s for the money. If they had gotten their act together and approved a script 10 years ago it may have still been plausible, but now it’s too late.
Here are some possible plot lines: Instead of swapping out the golden statue for a bag of sand, Indy will be able use his oxygen tank. No longer will Indy be afraid of snakes, but now he’ll fear falling down when he’s home alone. Or perhaps they’ll have an exciting wheelchair race scene between Indiana and his father, played by Sean Connery, if he’s still mobile.

Matt, That picture in the middle is just wrong. I’m not even talking in reference to Cate Blanchett. Just in general that’s wrong. (shiver…)

What a way to brighten a day at work, Raiders of the Retirement Home! lol
Is that Harrison Ford in the middle? It has been years since I have seen him…

Sadly, I think you could probably substitute that middle picture for any of the three (Ford, Blanchett, Connery).
Glad you liked it!

First Rocky Balboa, then Live Free or Die Hard, and now Indiana Jones 4? Seriously?
For the record, I saw Rocky Balboa, I plan on seeing Live Free or Die Hard at least 3-4 times, and will more than likely attend Indiana Jones 4. I’m just wondering why they’re digging up so many dinosaurs.

Harrison is definitely too old to play Indiana again.

@Manthem: I totally forgot about Die Hard 4 coming soon. Despite all my heckling and mocking I’ll also admit that when the time comes I know I’ll go see Indiana Jones 4 and Die Hard 4. I’m also more excited for DH4 than the others. Bruce Willis always does the tough-guy act so well.
How was Rocky Balboa? I saw the commercial for it last night and am considering putting it on my Netflix queue.
@Techified: I agree, but then I remembered that Connery was well into his 70’s when they had him do League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He was also too old there for an action movie, but he pulled it off. It’s sad though when you need a stunt double for throwing fake punches!
