Today was the start of Naomi Campbell’s 5 days of community service in New York as part of her guilty plea agreement for throwing a cell phone at her maid, Ana Scolavino. Campbell will be working inside the garage at the Department of Sanitation and out of the site of fans and photographers. From the picture it’s obvious that she showed up ready to do some mopping in her fashionable attire.
It’s somewhat entertaining to see her humbled by this arrangement in a similar situation as Boy George a few months back, however he seemed to enjoy the opportunity to be back in the sight of cameras. Personally, I don’t think this punishment is going to do anything to change her behavior. Naomi Campbell has a history of short temper fuses and diva-like behavior and while 5 days of community service may humiliate her it’s not going to eliminate her impulses.
This entire thing is over a pair of jeans that went missing which escalated to Naomi Campbell slamming a cell phone into the head of her maid. Surely a reasonable reaction for anyone, right? Wrong. If Campbell had plotted and planned to throw the cell phone then maybe the next time she leaps out of the closet wielding a Motorola machete she might take pause and reconsider to avoid another round of sanitation engineering. Instead, this is a case of impulse behavior, quick actions with split second decisions, and not something that 2 days of anger management along with a $363 fine to cover Scolavino’s medical expenses is going to change.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope she comes out of this with a brand new personality. But I doubt it.
