Tonight we’ll find out who makes it to the coveted Top Ten for American Idol 2007 Season 6. Predictions for tonight are tough because there are clearly people who don’t come close to the talent of others (Haley & Sanjaya, I’m looking at you two!) yet they’ve managed to linger weeks longer than I expected. So you can’t just base the predictions from last night’s performances (American Idol Performance Recap March 20th) as we’ve seen already, you need to think about how the rest of America voted.
Last week forgetting the words was an offense punishable by being voted off (so long Brandon Rogers). No one blatantly missed words this round, though I thought I heard some stumbling in a few songs. So what could be the catalyst this time around? America doesn’t seem to mind butchering songs, but what about boring songs? The most boring performance of the night for me was Lakisha Jones with “Diamonds are Forever”. She’s such a better performer than what we saw from her yesterday. She stood there like a statue and song the same two lines over and over for 3 minutes. Compare that to Gina Glocksen who, although I don’t think she’s nearly as talented, was really performing up there. She knocked down her mic stand and really got into, she had an actual performance.
It’s not good enough to get up there and sing well or look good or have an exciting performance. These contestants need to get all of those at the same time. Does that mean I think Lakisha Jones is going home? Heck no, she’s good and has a strong following. I expect her to hang around for much longer.
So after all that I’m going to put my dollar on Phil Stacey (Nosferatu if you prefer). He tried to make it exciting with his rendition of “Tobacco Road”, but I don’t think it’s going to stick to the ribs of the voting audience. He was in the bottom three last week and deserves to be there again tonight. So there it is: Phil Stacey, tonight you are going home.

I’m worried about Gina tonight. She doesn’t deserve to go home yet, but for whatever reason that trainwreck of a performance from Sanjaya won’t be enough to get rid of him. I think he’s going to have to literally drop trou and crap on the stage before he gets booted.

Ah man, that made me laugh. Yeah, Sanjaya seems like he can do no wrong despite doing all that wrong.
I hope that Gina doesn’t go quite yet either. She’s not my favorite, but she’s still entertaining.
