This is ABC’s latest contribution to the America vote’s on stuff, reality tv genre. The idea is people send in their American Dream and then America votes on who gets to have their dream come true. Ok, it sounds a little corny, but, I figured it could be alright. Nope.
They could have made this show a sappy do-gooder show like Ty Pennington’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition where they do a story about some deserving family and follow the story of setting up the dream and then surprising the family with it. Or they could have done the Survivor/American Idol/Apprentice kind of thing, making it a season long competition where the last person standing gets their dream at the end of the season. Either of these ideas which, while not good, would have been better than the show ABC produced.
In American Dream Vote, the contestants go head to head, they are given a short period of time to explain their dreams, why they should get them, or cutting the other contestants down by explaining why they shouldn’t have their dream come true. The studio audience then picks the winner of that round. The contestants continue to do this until only two are left and then America gets to vote to decide which of the final two gets their dream. I’m sorry but BLECK! Its so awful and too cheesy to even be enjoyable. Even the dreams are weak: I want my daughter to move out, I want some singer to sing a song for my wife, etc. If you haven’t seen it, don’t bother. My prediction is that this show bombs and is canceled mid-season (the sooner, the better).

To bad I am not American. Yet another reality show that I will miss out on. Besides, I don’t think America would vote to support my goal of retiring by the time I am 35. There are a lot of more deserving stories out there that deserve their dreams to be made. I will achieve mine, it will have to be done with some good old fashion elbow grease.

I didn’t even bother watching this….but I’ve given up a lot of my shows. This is one, for sure, I will check off my list of trying to tune into! Thanks for the heads up!

I haven’t seen it either, but it sounds like that Amy Grant “wishes” show that got canceled mixed with some other competitive reality show. Kinda strange. I agree with Walt that it sounds like it’s going the way of the dinosaur.
