Following HBO’s Rome Season Finale, the actors and actresses from that show are obviously out looking for work. Everyone’s favorite roman thug, Titus Pullo (a.k.a, Ray Stevenson) has found work as a hardened modern day mercenary in Steve Barker’s new film Outpost. The mercs in this film are hired to take a business man to an abandoned German outpost (pretty clever title huh?), which was of course used for evil nazi experiments. The lurking evil which remains besets out heroes killing them off on-by-one. Wow, what an original concept for a movie. I’m surprised no one else ever thought of that (end dripping sarcasm). Anyhow, good for you Pullo.

Now, please do not confuse Steve Barker’s new movie Outpost with Neil Marshall’s new movie called Outpost. In this horror flik an elite special forces unit goes to check out a derelict oil rig where secret genetic experiments are taking place only to find themselves faced with angry savage zombies, Ooooo! The only hope for this movie is that the director, Neil Marshall, also did the movie The Descent which was an excellent horror movie. One other point on this movie before we move on, Marshall told Bloody-Disgusting.com when interviewed that the movie will contain “…some fantastic nudity… I am devising a zombie sex scene that will be quite unique.” (Hmmm.)

Kevin McKidd in Dog Soldiers

As it turns out Neil Marshall also directed a Sci-Fi movie in 2002 called Dog Soldiers about a group of soldiers on a training mission hunted by werewolves (again with the clever titles :) ), which happened to include our other favorite roman soldier, Kevin McKidd (Lucius Verenus). As it turns out Dog Soldiers is on the Sci-Fi channel tonight at 11 so I may try to Tivo it. Marshall is in pre-production of a follow-up to Dog Soldiers creatively titled Dog Soldiers, Fresh Meat also to star Kevin McKidd.

While I don’t expect Barker’s Outpost or Dog Soldiers, Fresh Meat to garner huge audiences especially outside the UK (or even to be any good at all) I’m glad to see these two talented actors find gainful employment. I thought they worked really well together and I’d like to see them in some really good action films, preferrably together.
