Blades of Glory

No surprise here that Will Ferrell’s new release, Blades of Glory, took the #1 spot at the box office this weekend. Blades of Glory took in a healthy $33M beating out the 2 other new releases, Meet the Robinsons and The Lookout. I guess it is a little surprising that the family friendly, Disney movie Meet the Robinsons didn’t earn more than $25M. Maybe they just didn’t hype it enough though. I saw plenty of commercials for it but hadn’t a clue about its premise until I watched the Meet the Robinsons’ preview trailer.

If you’ll follow the list all the way down to spot #11 you’ll find the other new release, The Lookout. I usually only list the top 10 box office earners, but since it was a new movie I thought I’d include it just to add to its embarrassment. Maybe the movie’s title was more of a warning than anything else. “Lookout” this movie stinks!

If you missed the details or trailers on any of the new releases, you can check out our weekend movie preview.

Did The Lookout not get released wide? I’m surprised it did so poorly, actually. I saw it and thought it was pretty good, and I’m a pretty picky movie-watcher.

Meet the Robinsons didn’t get great critical reviews - perhaps that hurt it at the box office a bit.

We actually had to leave 20 minutes into Meet the Robinson’s last night, b/c my four year old was too scared of the evil man with the hat. It freaked him out a little. Obviously he was too young for this movie.

@Erik: It’s good to hear a positive review on The Lookout. Although it was a type of movie I sometimes like I wasn’t so sure on it. Then when it got such a low box office I figured it must’ve been a stinker. I will add it to my Netflix queue now though. Thanks.

@Blessed1: That’s too bad about the scary character. That’s a hard line to balance I’m sure when trying to create the “evil” characters for these young audience movies.
