American Idol Stage

Tonight on American Idol we’ll say goodbye to our Top 9 for Season 6 and welcome in the Final 8 performers for 2007. This week’s musical inspiration is the legendary Tony Bennett and, unless the rumors of sickness are true, he’ll be performing tonight. It was interesting to watch American Idol last night and see which contestants took his advice and which ignored it. I’d have a hard time in a singing competition turning down advice from someone who has won 15 Grammy awards. If Lakisha ends up in the bottom three tonight maybe she’ll think twice about going her own way. I’ve already made my Top 9 Vote Off Prediction and I’m standing by my guess, despite it not being the very deserving Sanjaya Malakar. Speaking of Sanjaya, let me take this moment to remind you of our American Idol Charity.

Is your favorite Idol going? Let’s find out! But not before another sappy Ford musical commercial. Tonight’s song is “One Love” and the gang is having a grand old time washing a new Ford Hybrid in the jungle. Um, okay. So anyways. If you’re a songwriter, you can log onto AmericanIdol.com and enter your own song which, if selected, will be performed at the season finale.

The performers are broken into three groups. One will be the top 3, one as the middle 3, and lastly the bottom 3. The groups are as follows; Group 1: Chris Richardson, Blake Lewis, and Sanjaya Malakar; Group 2: Gina Glocksen, Phil Stacey, and Haley Scarnato; Group 3: Jordin Sparks, Lakisha Jones, and Melinda Doolittle. Group 3 is told to sit down, they are the top 3. Next Group 1 is told to sit down. So that means, and not so surprising, Group 2 is our bottom three this week. So tonight the performer voted off will be: Haley Scarnato, Phil Nosferatu Stacey, or Gina Glocksen. Which will it be?

Before we find out we discover that the rumors were true. Tony Bennett is out tonight with the flu and his stand in will be Michael Buble. Buble will still be covering one of Bennett’s songs though. He does a great job, but I’m still disappointed because I had been looking forward to Tony Bennett performing tonight. Before Michael Buble has to leave the stage he does get in a good joke about how he keeps voting for Antonella Barba despite her already being gone.

So who is not in the bottom two? Phil Stacey is asked to sit down. Phew. I’m getting closer to being correct again this week. And the person going home is… Gina Glocksen! What?! I’m totally surprised. How did Haley Scarnato survive that?? Well the Rocker Girl Gina Glocksen has been sent home.
