The Sopranos are back! After what seems like an eternity since the last season the first episode of the final season aired tonight. You can tell its been a long time since the last season, Bobby’s lost alot of weight and AJ looks like he’s about 25 years old. It was a little tough trying to remember who’s who after so long. Like many other, I loved this show back in the day. It was fun, especially because I grew up in NJ and used to drive past many of the same places they visited on the show. The past few seasons have been iffy at best. The Sopranos was unfortunately a victim of its own success. Honestly there is a part of me that is only watching because I need closure after watching it for 6 seasons. The day after the Sopranos is over, HBO is gone. No Rome, no Sopranos, no HBO. I like Deadwood but I’m going to watch it on DVD.

The Sopranos

After watching the first episode tonight, it looks like the whole season is going to be one long setup to the end of the series. I won’t include any spoilers in case your watching on Tivo or OnDemand but Tony is definitely feeling his age and is totally in introspective mode. The only other upsetting thing is that I wouldn’t be surprised if before the end of the season Bobby goes to jail. Which sucks, because I always liked Bobby. As usual the previews for the next episode looked great but, then don’t they always. Hopefully the NJ boys will finally have it out with the NY family to help close out the season. I am very interested to see how they end the show. I can’t believe they’ll end it with Tony retiring which only leaves three choices: Tony goes to jail, Tony dies, or equilibrium is restored and the family goes on as before. I can’t wait to find out. I’m trying to keep my expectations low though.
