I watched this show tonight, just to check it out. This is the latest attempt at a comedy improve show. In each skit a star comedian is placed in costume and then sent into the scene without having any idea what is going on. When they enter the scene one of the house actors starts the scene by saying, “Thank God you’re here”, hence the title (pretty clever, huh?).
Thank God You’re Here is very similar to Drew Carey’s Whose Line is it? but, not as good. Dave Foley and David Alan Grier split the Drew Carey role. Dave Foley sits behind the desk and hits the buzzer to end the scene. David Alan Grier introduces the stars and sometimes gets involved in the scenes. The non-star house actors’ lines are very scripted. So the stars only really get a chance to do one-liners in between the scripted lines. This show was funny. I enjoyed it but, I don’t think this show has legs. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t get the ax before its season is over.
