The teams started this leg in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Their next stop in the Amazing Race 11: Hong Kong! Actually a Dry cleaners in Hong Kong of all places (thanks for that little bit of racial stereotyping CBS). The teams left for the airport in the order they arrived last week: Dustin and Kandace (D&K), Charla and Mirna (C&M), Eric and Danielle (E&M), and finally Oswald and Danny (O&D). There were two flights leaving for Hong Kong in the morning, China Air at 8AM and Malaysian Airlines at 9:15, both of which were full. The interesting twist was that the Malaysian Airlines office opened an hour before the Chinese airline. Even though they started last, O&D managed to be the first team on the standby list for the Malaysian flight. By wandering the back halls of the airport they found a Malaysian Airlines office that was open. D&K were second on standby for 9:15 flight by camping in front of doors of Malaysian Airlines. C&M were 3rd and E&D 4th on the standby list for this flight.
O&D pulled the same trick with the China Air flight, so they were 1st on the list for the 8AM flight as well. They helped Charla & Mirna get on the list as well. The other also got on the standby list but it didn’t matter. When the flight left at 8AM there was room for only 1 team. So as O&D were enjoying a quiet flight to Hong Kong all of the others had to fight it out for the 9:15 flight. When I say fight I mean literally. In an effort to screw the beauty queens O&D gave C&M their standby code which C&M figured entitled them to the first place on the list for the 9:15 flight instead of D&K. There was nearly a catfight at Malaysian Airlines counter over who would be first on the list (Roawww!). Mirna was very pushy and extremely annoying. I didn’t like C&M when they were on before and I still don’t like them. D&K won the battle at the counter which in the end didn’t matter because both teams got on the flight :). Oh and E&D, well they were pretty much screwed and had to take a way later flight.
The other teams had a choice of detours at the cleaners: 1. Kung-Fu fighting-Climb and 11-story scaffolding while avoiding stunt ninjas (thats right you heard me, Hi-Yah!) (oh, and ah CBS for future reference ninjas are Japanese not Chinese). or 2. Lost in Translation - Take a picture of a sign with Chinese characters, head to the busiest part of Hong Kong and try to find that sign amid the thousands of signs (yeh, good luck with that one). C&M made it to the cleaners first, no doubt to the speed provided by Charla's Heelys. First they chose the Kung-Fu fight. Then half-way there the chose Lost in Translation. Then half-way there they chose Kung-Fu fighting. Then to top it off, their taxi driver got lost. While C&M were touring downtown Hong Kong in the back of a taxi, D&K showed up, climbed the scaffolding, avoiding the very scary (not) stunt ninjas, and were on their way. Next step take the star ferry across to Hong Kong Island. D&K showed up with 10 minutes to spare and were on there way. C&M got back in their cab and headed for the ferry to Hong Kong Island. Good thing their driver knew the short cut through the tunnel. C&M made the ferry but, the tunnel put them on Hong Kong Island already so they were headed back to Kowloon. They took the whole round trip and so finally made it to Hong Kong Island (Yay). Oh and E&D made it to Hong Kong (Yay). On Hong Kong Island, the teams had to goto the police station and break down a bunch of doors until they found the one with the clue behind it. Then it was off to a pool in Victoria Park where they had to reel in a model boat with a Travelocity gnome (I hate that Gnome) on board. Then finally they got to drive themselves to the pit stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club (that means racetrack for all of you who grew up on the right side of the tracks). D&K pretty much cruised through and were the second team to arrive. The real race was between C&M and E&D. E&D had a shot but Eric basically blew it by refusing to ask for directions (being a guy, I gotta back him up on this one). C&M finally managed to get there by dragged some poor chinese dude into their car and had him give them directions. Danielle finally convinced Eric to hire taxi driver so that they could follow to the Hong Kong Jockey Club. C&M were the third team to arrive. I’m sorry, E&D were the last team to arrive. Fortunately for them, it was non-elimination leg. Unless they arrive first at the next pit stop, they will incur a 30 minute penalty on the following leg of the race. Just a little technical point. On the second flight, Eric and Danielle were actually third on the standby list behind O/D and D/K. C/M were never shown actually placing their names on the list. So, not only did they attempt to use O/D code and information to jump ahead of D/K, but C/M also totally screwed over E/D who they claimed to want to be in the final 3 with.
