Since when do Hollywood movies not premiere first in the United States? That’s just what Spider-Man 3 did today when it debuted in Tokyo amidst the rain. I’d like to imagine the rain is from angels above that cry everytime Kirsten Dunst opens her mouth to smile.
Spider-Man 3 will make its North American debut on May 4, 2007. So we’ll have to wait a few more weeks while Japan gets to bathe in the warm glow of besting us once again. First our electronics, then our cars, now our movies! Oh the humiliation. Or maybe the producers are actually trying to protect us. It could be that they’re screen testing Kirsten Dunst to check if she causes seizures in the audience members the way that cartoon with flashing lights nearly killed all those kids in Japan a few years ago. Phew. Now I feel better. Hopefully they’ll have fuzzied up her shots by the time they get the film ready for U.S. consumption.
Whether or not Spider-Man 3 will be the final installment in the series is still vague. Snaggletooth has repeatedly said she’s ready to be done with the role of Mary Jane, and so are we. Tobey Maguire, who plays Spider-Man, has been skirting the topic:
“I feel like this film is kind of a natural conclusion to a lot of stuff that’s happened in the first two movies. It kind of feels like a natural trilogy,” the 31-year-old actor Maguire said, adding that he’s open to donning the Spider-Man suit again “if a story presents itself, if we come up with something we feel deserves to be told. I’m not going to make them just because they’ve been successful.”
We’ve got all the HD Spider-Man 3 Trailers as part of our coverage as well.
Here are pictures from the Tokyo World Premiere of Spider-Man 3 April 16, 2007:
Note to Thomas Haden Church (plays Sandman): maybe now that you’ve been in a movie with a budget you’ll be able to afford a suit so you don’t show up at a blockbuster movie’s world premiere wearing jeans and a half buttoned shirt again.
