Tonight on American Idol it’s time to find out who leaves our Top 7 for Season 6 and who will form our new Top 6 for 2007. Last night we saw some surprising performances in both directions. Phil Stacey had a stand out performance with “Where the Blacktop Ends”, really nailing the song. I’m still concerned that this won’t be enough to keep him out of the bottom three again this week. On the other hand, LaKisha Jones had a real stinker of a performance. She spent most of her time shouting out the words instead of using her great vocal abilities to bring home another week of safety. We’ll soon find out if it was enough to keep her here or if she’ll be voted off.
Simon took the opportunity to explain what happened last night when people mistook his expressions for disrespecting the events at Virginia Tech. Simon had been in conversation with Paula at the time and was unaware of what Chris was saying. His expression was in relation to what was being said between Paula and him, not related to Chris’ statement. From the video replay they provided with all camera angles I believe the explanation that was given.
The group performance tonight is “I’m Alright.” Chris is doing his overly high voice again tonight and LaKisha looks anything but happy. Past contestants have claimed to get treated in certain ways on their last day and can detect when it’s their time. Perhaps LaKisha Jones has been getting those feelings and my prediction is right. It was a pretty good performance, but these big group productions always feel like a Disney show.
The first guest performer tonight is Fergie, just Fergie, no Black Eyed Peas along with her. She had a really good performance and even managed to hold her bladder while on stage, so that’s great.
The thinly veiled music video/commercial for Ford tonight is “I Ran”. It looks like they’re doing a little Spy Vs. Spy action with everyone trying to steal the briefcase that holds a key to the Mustang. If you have an odd desire to watch these commercials they are all available over at americanidol.com.
Okay, we get an initial reveal on who is in the bottom three. The remaining 7 will be split into two groups, one group has the most votes and the other has the least votes. Group #1: Sanjaya Malakar, LaKisha Jones, and Blake Lewis. Group #2: Phil Stacey, Jordin Sparks, and Chris Richardson. Ryan Seacrest then reveals that Melinda Doolittle is safe, of course. Now she has to guess which group she belongs with. That’s a tough spot for her, so instead she sits down. Good for her. Ryan asks her to join Group #2.
Tonight’s bottom three: Sanjaya Malakar, LaKisha Jones, and Blake Lewis.

Before we get to the final performance show result we’re treated to a song by Martina McBride, this week’s musical counselor. She’s performing Anyway from her new album, Waking Up Laughing.
Time for the final results. One person will be sent back to the seats, and that person is… Blake Lewis. So it will either be Sanjaya Malakar or LaKisha Jones. The contestant going home tonight is… Sanjaya Malakar. Wow! Our American Idol Charity finally pulled through! Thanks to all our supporters!
