American Idol Top 8

Okay, so Haley Scarnato isn’t there anymore, but that’s still a good group picture, so I’ll use it for now. Last night we saw the American Idol Top 7 performances. This week’s musical coach was Martina McBride of Country music fame, so we should be seeing a performance from her tonight. I’m now so cautious about making those claims after Tony Bennett got sick and had to drop out. Also note that tonight’s Results Show will be a full hour again instead of the previous 30 mins. Before we get to my predictions let me hit the lows and highs from last night.

Martina McBride

Best Male Performer last night for me was Phil Stacey, though it probably doesn’t matter. No matter how Phil does in his performances he keeps landing himself in the bottom three, week after week. Phil’s got a good voice, but does often lack the charisma the other male performers have and that’s really hurt him. Overall, Phil isn’t good enough to win amongst this group, but I don’t think he should be next in line to leave.

Best Female Performer last night would have to be, of course, Melinda Doolittle. She had a great, youthful look to her this week, lots of energy, and once again took the cake as best overall performer, not just the best female last night, but best altogether.

Worst Overall Performer was without a doubt, Sanjaya Malakar. He was barely singing the song. Sounded more like he was just reading the words off a teleprompter, not even bothering to pretend to sing along. Just like the judges said, it was terrible even for karaoke. Also, I’m ticked that he didn’t wear a cowboy hat. This is the kid that embraces the theme each week, yet no cowboy hate, spurs, or chaps! Loser.

LaKisha Jones

My Prediction I think we’ll end up seeing Phil Stacey, again, Chris Richardson, again, and the third person will be new, LaKisha Jones. LaKisha had her worst performance yet last night. I really think it could have been bad enough to put her in serious danger. So much so that I’ll make a bold claim. Tonight I think LaKisha Jones will be voted off.

Come back tonight after the show for our American Idol April 11 Results Show recap.

I couldn’t agree more. Lakisha really, really surprised me. She has never had a bad performance, but this was terrible. It made me realize how much Carrie Underwood blows her out of the water. Lakisha was singing off pitch, and was actually screaming for most of the song. It made me cringe. The public isn’t very forgiving, and I think that her butchering a Carrie Underwood song may have done her in.

That’s a really good point about it being worse as it was a Carrie Underwood song. That does escalate it as that audience is very familiar with that song and may have a special attachment to it.

I hope I’m wrong and it’s Sanjaya instead of LaKisha though!

I was rather disappointed with Kiki’s song choice. She sang off key a few times. I don’t think JESUS would “Take the wheel” after HE hears her!!!

I’m afraid she, Chris & Sanjaya will be in the bottom 3 tonight.

Bravo to Jordin for a grand performance!

Ah, that made me laugh. I’d be very happy to not see Phil in the bottom three for a change this week. He’s been doing so well yet keeps hitting the bottom. That’s gotta be discouraging.

Jordin definitely had a great performance. I had a tough time choosing between her and Melinda. I really want Melinda to win, but wouldn’t be upset at all if Jordin gets it.
