I’ve heard plenty of stories of video games cutting into relationships and families. There was the kid in Asia that died after playing for days straight, the father whose kid dying after neglect due to continuous play, and even my college roommate that some how survived a summer of Warcraft. Now game industry experts are reporting that it’s the video game accessories that are the new catalyst of social unrest amongst couples.

Guitar Hero

Experts believe that as game systems become more complex and involved so do their interfaces. The Wii console from Nintendo has a whole new set of dual controllers. There’s the Guitar Hero II for the XBOX 360 with its life sized guitar necessary to play along. Don’t forget Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) with it’s large floor pad for moving to the beat.

Power Glove

Personally, I don’t see what’s changed so much. The original NES had nothing but accessory after accessory. It had the absurd Power Glove, the easily cheated Power Pad, and even the included Zapper Power Gun for Duck Hunt and others. Video game accessories are nothing new, nor have they gotten any more exotic or outrageous. You can see the list of Nintendo accessories that scrolls and scrolls.

So have things really gotten worse, or is just more of the same? What do you think?
