“Their war. Our world.”

Set to release on July 4, 2007 Transformers will take a hugely popular cartoon from the 80’s and, well, transform it to a potentially huge blockbuster movie. The story will focus on the two opposing races of robots, Autobots and Decepticons, as their battle across space has brought them to Earth. In case you missed your childhood, the Autobots came to protect us while the Decepticons aren’t quite so nice. Interesting note of comparison between the original cartoon series and this movie is the amount of focus giving to humans. The cartoon’s story involved few people and instead centered on the dueling bots. Hopefully this won’t have too heavy of a negative influence on the story.

The cast looks alright: Shia LaBeouf (from Disturbia and Holes), Josh Duhamel (TV’s “Las Vegas”), Tyrese Gibson (from 2 Fast 2 Furious and Annapolis), Megan Fox (mostly TV guest appearances), and Jon Voight (from Midnight Cowboy and National Treasure). So the cast isn’t bad, but other than Jon Voight there aren’t any huge names. Shouldn’t be a problem though as none of those names I’d recognize as poor actors. The strong arms come in at producer with Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay. Michael Bay has certainly been known to stink up some movies (The Island and Pearl Harbor), but hopefully Spielberg will keep him on track.

This definitely looks like a sure thing for huge box office earnings and unless their torpedo the ending they should have plenty of room for several sequels.
