Alright, weekend time here. Woo-hoo! This time around we have four new movies coming out today, none of which look family friendly. The lowest rating you’ll find is one PG-13 and that one includes the affair-o-rama theme. If you’re looking for a comedy then Hot Fuzz is where the action is, but it’s R, so if that’s too much for you you could always fall back to the excellent Blades of Glory comedy. You’ve also got a slasher option with Vacancy, though I’m not too drawn in by that one. Finally there’s Fracture which has a detective type murder thriller story if that’s more of your thing. So there are plenty of options this weekend, if you’re over 17 that is.
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, April 20 - 22.
Also, it’s not too late to enter our contest to win a linkback.

Hot Fuzz
Director: Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost
Rated: R for violent content including some graphic images, and language
Duration: 2 hr
Plot: Jealous colleagues conspire to get top London cop Nicholas Angel (Pegg) transferred to a small town. With his new partner (Frost) in tow, Angel realizes (a lot faster than anyone else) that a series of local accidents might be something a little bit more sinister.
My Take: Hot Fuzz looks awesome. These are the same guys from Shaun of the Dead which was fantastic. They have a great sense of humor and the movie is not only well delivered by the actors but the directing is awesome as well. I expect nothing less than a top notch, hilarious comedy out of this group. Hot Fuzz is my movie pick of the week.
Hot Fuzz Trailer:

Fracture
Director: Gregory Hoblit
Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling, David Strathairn
Rated: R for language and some violent content
Duration: 1 hr. 52 min.
Plot: Assistant district attorney Willy Beachum (Gosling) matches wits with the man (Hopkins) who tried to kill his wife and evaded sentencing via a series of technicalities.
My Take: This doesn’t look too bad. Gosling is proving to be rather talented and Anthony Hopkins is nearly unsinkable. If you’re looking for a murder thriller then this is the movie for you this week.
Fracture Trailer:

Vacancy
Director: Nimród Antal
Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Luke Wilson
Rated: R for brutal violence and terror, brief nudity and language
Plot: Mysteriously trapped inside their room at an out-of-the-way motel, a young married couple (Beckinsale and Wilson) learn they have become the stars of a slasher film.
My Take: I’ve seen too many of these to be interested (Texas Chainsaw + Nothing But Trouble + U-Turn + …) Here’s how they made this one: a couple gets stuck in a small town, small town turns out to be kuh-razy, small town people try to kill them, couple has to keep running for their lives, the end. Both of these actors are great and fun to watch, but I don’t see how they can overcome an overplayed storyline. I’ll pass.
Vacancy Trailer:

In the Land of Women
Director: Jon Kasdan
Starring: Adam Brody, Kristen Stewart, Meg Ryan
Rated: PG-13 for sexual content, thematic elements and language
Duration: 1 hr. 37 min
Plot: When Carter Webb (Brody) is dumped by the love of his life, he flees Los Angeles for the Michigan suburbs to live with his ailing grandmother (Dukakis). From across the street, the Hardwickes, a family of three women, help Carter rediscover and redefine his life.
My Take: Oh Meg Ryan, how far you have fallen. I don’t think Adam Brody is going to be able to kick his OC character for a long time. Maybe a haircut would help. Kristen Stewart played Jodie Foster’s daughter in Panic Room several years ago and she has definitely grown up since. Quite the looker I’d say. But anyways, this movie is filled with inappropriate relationships: Stewart’s father is having an affair, Stewart’s mother is having an affair w/ Brody, and Stewart is having a relationship with Brody as well. At 97 minutes I get the feeling this movie may run about 96 minutes long.
