Update: Check out tonight’s American Idol Top 6 Performance Show Recap.
Tonight we are down to our Top 6 contestants for American Idol Season 6 2007. Last week I was pleasantly surprised to see Sanjaya Malakar going home, while LaKisha Jones and Blake Lewis survived a night in the bottom three. It looks like our American Idol Charity efforts finally paid off, so thanks to all the supporters. Speaking of charities, tonight is part one of the two night special for Idol Gives Back, the charity special by American Idol to raise money and support for needy children in the U.S. and Africa.
I wasn’t sure if there would be a musical coach since this week’s theme is the charity, but guess what, Bono is supposed to be meeting with the Top 6 contestants. I’m still not sure if that’ll be to just discuss the cause or to help theme pick a song for tonight. Either way the theme will be compassion for tonight’s songs.
This will definitely be a big week for performances on the shows though with there being a huge list of performers and celebrities, including: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Earth, Wind & Fire, Il Divo, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Josh Groban, Jack Black, Helen Mirren, Rascal Flatts, Quincy Jones, and Annie Lennox. Also of interest is that Ryan Seacrest will not be hosting the big show on Wednesday night, but will instead we’ll have Ellen DeGeneres covering the host duties. DeGeneres is a great host, but won’t Seacrest be a little ticked that he’s getting bumped from his job to bring in a bigger name? I’d be annoyed.
Update: Thanks to Judy for pointing out that Ellen should be hosting a remote site while Ryan Seacrest will be retaining his role at the Idol site. Now that makes more sense.

As I understand it, Ryan Seacrest will be on the Idol stage on Wednesday, and Ellen will be on the Disney stage, I believe.

Ahh. Now that makes more sense. I was very surprised that Seacrest would relinquish his role.
Thank you for the insight.
