Weekend Movie Preview logo

Weekend movie action time here. There are four new movies coming out which range from action to comedy and suspense, then some sort of comical action, though I doubt that was on purpose. Again, like last weekend, so you’ll have to go hunting for some kids’ movies if you’re in that market. Hopefully these movies will do better than the Titanic like box office action they got last weekend.

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, April 27 - 29.

Also, it’s not too late to enter our contest to win a linkback.

Director: Lee Tamahori
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore, Jessica Biel
Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy, Thriller and Adaptation
Rated: PG-13 for intense sequences of violent action, and some language.
Plot: Cornered by the FBI after a relentless pursuit, a man (Cage) with the ability to see future events and affect their outcome faces an ultimatum, as the country’s intelligence agencies scramble to prevent a devastating terrorist attack.
My Take: I think this is going to suck. From what I’ve read there is not plot development it’s just thrown at you with a “this is the way it is”, so suddenly the FBI somehow knows about Cage and his abilities and just as mysteriously they know about the terrorists and the nuke. What’s up with Cage’s knock-off hairdo from Tom Hanks anyways? I thought I was the only one that tried to look like Gene Simmons these days. Anyways, not even the lovely Jessica Biel could save this one from disaster. Considering how bad Ghost Rider looked to me (and I was a fan back from the comic books) and how much money that one made this is probably still going to pull in a lot of cash come Sunday afternoon.

Kickin It Old Skool

Kickin It Old Skool
Director: Harvey Glazer
Starring: Jamie Kennedy, Maria Menounos
Genre: Comedy
Rated: PG-13 for crude and sexual content and language.
Duration: 1 hr. 47 min.
Plot: In 1986, a young breakdancer hits his head during a talent show, sending him into a coma for twenty years. When he awakens, with the mindset of a 12-year-old, he looks to rally his old dance teammates and revive their short-lived careers.
My Take: This looks totally mindless but funny. Jamie Kennedy is no Will Ferrell, but he can still make me laugh and with a good enough supporting cast they might pull this one off. Plus, there’s a cameo with David Hasselhoff and KITT, so it’s gotta be good, right?

The Invisible

The Invisible
Director: David S. Goyer
Starring: Justin Chatwin, Margarita Levieva, Marcia Gay Harden
Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy, Thriller and Remake
Rated: PG-13 for violence, criminality, sensuality and language - all involving teens.
Plot: After he’s attacked and left for dead, Nick Powell (Chatwin) finds himself in a strange sort of limbo. His predicament: Find a way to solve his own murder and communicate with the living — who cannot hear him — who did it, and why.
My Take: It’s from the producers of ‘Sixth Sense’ and they’re flaunting that, so I guess they’re hoping their experience with dead people trying to right wrongs is going to come in helpful. I’m a little past teen hero movies, but maybe you’re not.
The Invisible Movie Trailer:

The Condemned

The Condemned
Director: Scott Wiper
Starring: Steve Austin, Vinnie Jones, Nathan Jones
Genre: Action/Adventure and Drama
Rated: R for pervasive strong brutal violence, and for language.
Plot: As Joe Conrad (Austin) awaits the death penalty in a Central American prison, he’s purchased by a TV producer and transported to a remote island where a 10-person, fight-to-the-death battle is to be staged and broadcast online.
My Take: Grrr. Does no one else see a total rip-off of ‘No Escape‘ and ‘The Running Man‘?? ‘No Escape’ is 13 years old and ‘The Running Man’ is just now 20 years old, so maybe they thought they waited long enough. Nope. Convicts running around killing each other on an island = ‘No Escape’. Convicts running for their lives in an attempt to survive and be free while being broadcast for civilian consumption = ‘The Running Man’. Now after all that, I’d still catch it on Netflix, but it won’t get my $9.75 at the theaters.
