American Idol Stage

Update: You can see tonight’s American Idol Top 6 Performance Show Recap here.

Alright, here we go, again. We’re still down to the Top 6 contestants for American Idol Season 6 2007. Last week on Idol absolutely no one went home. There was however, a lot of cool things going on that night. Idol Gives Back raised over $60M so far with their effort and there was also the rather good duet between Elvis Presley and Celine Dion.

With so much happening last time this week will have some large shoes to fill. There are a couple of big things happening over the next two nights that you’ll definitely want to catch, or at least come back here for all your American Idol coverage should you miss it. First, Jon Bon Jovi will be this week’s musical coach. He’ll be walking the contestants through song selection and coaching them on delivery as they perform songs from, of course, the Bon Jovi catalog. And since no one went home last week American Idol will be sure to make up for lost time by sending home two contestants this week.

The situation with two contestants is going to be a little strange. The producers have decided to not totally through out last week’s charity votes (charity votes because many people may have been calling numbers randomly to get the $0.10 per call that News Corporation promised), instead they’ll be combining those votes with this week’s votes. Or perhaps they are secretly totally throwing out last week’s votes and working entirely from this week’s. We’re at their mercy here as the whole voting process is anything but transparent.

Based on last week’s American Idol Top 6 performances I’m expecting LaKisha Jones and Chris Richardson to need to really turn their power all the way up to survive this round of double executions. LaKisha has the strength and capability to stay alive at least another week or two, she just has to stop acting like she’s already lost. Two weeks ago when everyone thought (yeah, yeah, I thought, that’s what I meant) she clearly was expecting the ax to fall as she had zero life pumping through her group performance and could barely even fake a smile that night. If she can go out there and be the LaKisha Jones of 6 weeks ago, then she’ll do fine, otherwise I’m ready to put her in the danger zone tonight. As far as Chris Richardson, I think he’s done. He’s done very well so far and I think his level of talent has taken him as far as it can go. He’s no match for the powerhouse ladies, Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks, and even without them I don’t think he could beat out Phil Nosferatu Stacey or Blake Lewis.

What do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong? Let me know, I’d be interested to hear.

Top 6 for American Idol 2007 Season 6:

  • Jordin Sparks

    Hey Matt,
I agree with your pre-show predictions, Lakisha seems to have run out of steam, and Chris has gone as far as he can go. I wouldn;t be shocked if Phil went home either, although he has really stepped up his game in the past few weeks.
You can now check out ALL of the past performances on the all new American Idol channel on Scenemaker.net! check it out today at http://scenemaker.net/channels/ai.php

Very cool with the Scenemaker. Thanks for sharing that.

Yeah, I think you’re right about Phil’s chances. I’ve started to enjoy his performances enough that I’m likely kidding myself on my perspective of his survival chances at this point. It’s inevitable for him, but I’m hoping he sticks around a little longer.
