Spider-Man 2.1

It’s been impossible to miss all the marketing hype out there for Spider-Man 3 coming out this Friday. To accompany that Sony is looking to cash in on the Spider-Man movies it already has ready for market consumption. So of course they’ve gone back and recut Spider-Man 2 into a new released version: Spider-Man 2.1. It’s really just another type of “director’s cut” release, so don’t let the fancy name full you. I’ll also let you down easy now, no, they didn’t cut out the fanged beast from this version like I had desperately been hoping.

The guys over at 2 Live Fools have a great write-up on what you get in 2.1 that you didn’t get with Spider-Man 2? There’s a lot more Spidey action and fight scenes like this:

Now, with what appears to be the largest and most violent additional sequence, Spidey is being forced down the side of the train as he continually smashes into the track control boxes–it’s violent, feels painful to watch, and things can’t get worse…until… a train travelling in the opposite direction hits Spidey, and rips him right off of the train. This time, Spidey makes it back on the train—saving some lives in the process—and eventually saves everyone on board.

I don’t plan to go out and buy this version as I’ve already got the original, but I would add it to my Netflix queue so I can warm up for the third installment coming out this weekend. Well, never mind on that idea. Netflix doesn’t have it at all, just the regular version. Wow, that’s the first time I think that’s happened for any recent movie that I’ve wanted from them. Grrr…

Here’s a little taste of some of the scenes that were added back in. J.J.J. (top dog at the paper where Peter works) is enjoying having the Spidey costume in this video clip that you missed in the original version of Spider-Man 2:
