American Idol Stage

Tonight on American Idol it’s time to find out which two performers leaves our Top 6 for Season 6 and who will form our new Top 4 for 2007. Last night we saw some interesting performances. Nosferatu Phil Stacey rocked the house with “Blaze of Glory” in what had to be his best performance yet this season. I’m thinking his performance should be enough to keep him alive another week, same with Melinda Doolittle who also had a stand out performance and surprised me as a rocker. Jordin Sparks had a surprising stinker on her hands, though she admitted she knew it had problems right away. I don’t even know where to start with Blake Lewis and his remix of “You Give Love a Bad Name”. Most people loved it. I’d chew off my hand before sitting through that again. I doubt if Blake is going anywhere though tonight. Instead, I’ve set my predictions on LaKisha Jones and Chris Richardson. Let’s see how it turns out.

Jon Bon Jovi

Tonight we’re getting a live performance from Bon Jovi as they were the musical guests this week. Jon Bon Jovi did an awesome job last night as the performers’ coach. He was very supportive, gave great feedback, and even got his hands dirty by playing right along with all the singers. He’s definitely set the bar high for future musical advisers that come by the show.

Ryan Seacrest spends a little time talking with the judges and getting their input on what happened last night. Simon gives Blake top marks for his adventurous take on Bon Jovi’s song. He then got in his spaceship and flew away. Okay, I made up that last part. Jon Bon Jovi walks us through a recap of last night and what each performer covered. We even get a replay of LaKisha Jones’ kiss with Simon Cowell.

Before we get to results we are given another walk through, this time it’s a look back at last week’s Idol Gives Back charity event show. I guess this is what Seacrest meant with “no filler tonight”.

Robin Thicke

Tonight’s first live performance is by Robin Thicke, performing “Lose Without U” from his album “Evolution of Robin Thicke”. I wasn’t familiar with Thicke before seeing him on the show tonight, but he’s got a pretty good voice. He even managed to complete the song without beatboxing, proving it can be done. Weird.

The group Ford musical-commerical-video tonight is the Rolling Stone’s “Paint It Black”. The setting is an antiquated circus show and semi-dark themes. The musical delivery of the song isn’t nearly as dark and chilling as it deserves though. They don’t even sound very good in it. I usually don’t like those thinly veiled commercials for Ford vehicles, but this one was one of the weakest.

Okay, now it is time for our first results reveal. The first group pulled out to center stage is… Melinda Doolittle, Phil Stacey, and LaKisha Jones. First Ryan announces that Melinda Doolittle is safe, no kidding! It is either LaKisha Jones or Phil Stacey at this point. And the person performing their swan song tonight is… Phil Stacey! What?! Nosferatu Stacey is heading home. No way. Well damn. I’m really surprised and will be disappointed to lose his performances over the next few weeks. His performances over the past two weeks have been so much better than LaKisha’s. He was really rising to the top while she appeared to be giving up early. He’s taking it very well and I’m sure he’ll continue to do great post-American Idol.

Phil Stacey

Ryan asks the back row to stand up so we have Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, and Chris Richardson. Ryan immediately admits that he messed with Jordin too much last week with his fake out, so he instructs her to sit down right away. Jordin Sparks is safe this week, no big surprise though. So it’ll either be Blake Lewis or Chris Richardson. Before we get the results though it is Bon Jovi time. Woohoo! They do a great job with a nice smooth performance of “You Want to Make a Memory”. When asked by Ryan Seacrest if he wants to make a call on who is going home, Blake or Chris, Jon Bon Jovi says, “not on your life”. Good choice.

There’s more banter before the results are revealed and the odd couple here, Blake and Chris, start in on how much they love each other, “I’d go home for him right now”, says Blake. They also claim BFF status and say that it doesn’t matter who goes home, they are still going on tour together. Aww, says the crowd, not me. So which is going home tonight? It is… Chris Richardson who will be going home tonight on American Idol, just like I expected.

Chris Richardson

So there it is. We are down to our final four for American Idol 2007. Hmm, one of these things is not like the others. The competition is going to continue to get tighter and tighter. I’m excited to see where it goes next. Keep checking back here for the rest of our American Idol coverage.
