Isaiah Washington, 43, of “Grey’s Anatomy” fame, is planning to appear in a public service announcement for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network. You probably remember Washington causing a stir back a few months ago after using an anti-gay slur during an on-set rumble with Patrick Dempsey in regards to castmate T.R. Knight. Washington then used the term again in January at the Golden Globe Awards.
Okay, yeah, Washington shouldn’t have been using those words, but does it really make sense to have him then do a PSA on the topic? Despite any “anger rehab” he may have gone through he still said some offensive things to these groups. A few hours of sensitivity training doesn’t exactly wipe out your emotions or the way he obviously feels about this particular group of people. Seems a bit foolish of them and hypocritical of him to then go on and do a public announcement on their behalf.
I can’t wait for the ‘Don’t Drink and Go Hunting’ PSA from Dick Cheney or the ‘Enjoy Limoncello Responsibly’ one from Danny DeVito. Say, didn’t Don Imus get fired for offensively mouthing recently? Interesting…
