Baseball is one of my obsessions, so it was only a matter of time before I figured out a way to work it into this site. Baseball is the All-American past time. We all know that “Mom, baseball, and Apple Pie” have long been thought of as the three things most closely associated with this country. Baseball, for all of its problems of late, is still a major part of the American psyche. Many of us have fond memories of lazy summer afternoons watching a game at the local park, a professional stadium, or on TV. Probably every boy in America has played at least one season of little league. Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, Ripkin, and Robinson are still household names, known to every American. That is why, the passion, the drama, and the love of this great game have long been the fodder of another great American institution, Hollywood.
Below are what I believe to be the ten best baseball movies of all-time. In selecting these movies, I looked for movies that were first and foremost good films, but more importantly which captured the spirit of the game and the passion people have for it. I have done my best to survey the widest possible range of movies. I have posted the full list of all the movies considered in a separate article. Despite my best effort I have no doubt there are still one or two that I missed. My opinion is of course biased by my age, memories of the film, and my experiences but, I’m sure you’ll all let me know which ones I forgot or which ranking I got wrong :).

In about 1980, I played charades at party, boys against girls. When it came my turn, I did my favorite Baseball Movie at the time, and all of the men got it, but none of the women. I have been looking at lists on the web of the top 10 baseball movies, and they all include Major League, League of their Own, Bull Durham, Pride of the Yankees, etc., but nobody included my favorite of all time: It Happens Every Spring with Ray Milland.
