American Idol Stage

Update: You can get the recap of tonight’s American Idol Top 4 Performance Show here.

American Idol is starting to approach the finish lines and the competition is getting tougher. We’re down to our final four competitors and at this point I think it’s almost anyone’s game (at least for three of them). Last week we saw Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson get sent home. I’m still somewhat surprised by Nosferatu Phil as I thought he’d last at least one more week. Chris, however, was ready and set to go. Both of these guys did very well, of course, but I didn’t see either of them taking home the big prize this season.

I’m not expecting a wildly successful show this week as the theme is going to be the Bee Gees music with musical coach Barry Gibb from the band. I don’t feel like this is a genre of music that the ladies will really nail, but I hope I’m wrong. Blake Lewis will probably soak it up well though and remix the heck out of it and people will love it, for some reason. I’m anticipating this week to really just be about doing some processing and watching the contestant go home that should have been out a few weeks ago but got a reprieve with the Idol Gives Back results show and last week’s surprise (at least to me) results show.

Barry Gibb

I’m of course referring to LaKisha Jones. She’s done really well with her ‘on’ weeks, but she’s just had too many ‘off’ performances. While all the remaining contestants have had their low points LaKisha’s have been too many and too frequent for her to go much further. Now I could be easily wrong, just as I was wrong last week, in regards to LaKisha’s exit. We’ll just have to see how LaKisha Jones and the rest of the gang does tonight.

Then there’s Blake Lewis and while I’m no fan of his he is very popular and has several advantages going for him at this point in the competition. You can read the rest of my article on Blake Lewis’ Chances of Winning American Idol Season 6. This week should be good for him with the Bee Gees theme, which should undoubtedly give him another chance to run wild with his creativity. And by run wild with his creativity I mean to enter the song in the computer program he uses and then sing however that tells him.

What I’m anticipating as being the most exciting part of the week is seeing which of the leading ladies, Melinda Doolittle or Jordin Sparks, is able to grab the crown of Queen Bee. These two are very close in abilities and performances and while I see Melinda leading her co-contestant at this point I think things could easily shift in the last few weeks. If Jordin pulls another Bon Jovi mishap the gap could widen and allow Melinda to stroll right into that winner’s circle.

Exciting performances or not, this week is going to really apply the pressure to this group of four. I’m ready to see who holds up and who crumbles. Alright American Idol, bring on our Top 4 for Season 6!

What do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong? Let me know, I’d be interested to hear.

Top 4 for American Idol 2007 Season 6:

  • Jordin Sparks
  • Lakisha Jones
  • Melinda Doolittle
  • Blake Lewis

Come back tonight after the show for our American Idol Performance Show recap. Then tomorrow I’ll share my predictions and follow that with a Results Show recap as well.

  1. Melinda Doolittle Fan

I’m looking forward to how Blake mixes up the Bee Gees disco songs. That should be fun. It’s probably enough to move him on too I bet.

  2. Matt

Agreed. As much of a non-fan I am of Blake I suspect he’ll really get to shine tonight. Should be interesting.

Side note, you’ve got a nice site there MD-Fan. (I’m also quite the MD fan and have high hopes for her this season!)
