Dancing with the Stars

“America’s Favorite Ballroom”

Round 1: Ballroom

Ian Ziering & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Foxtrot
They danced to one of my favorite Dean Martins songs, Baby its Cold Outside. Their performance was good. I thought it was good but still not as good as the performances that were used to seeing from the other couples. Bruno and Len were in agreement that dance was supposed to be smooth and instead looked ‘bouncey’. Carrie Ann also agreed but thought that Ian had so much exuberance helped to make up a lot of that.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 22

Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson
Dance: Waltz
Joey and Kym went to the Kentucky Derby this week. Which I mention because it was a little out of place, having nothing to do with dancing. The oddest part was the enormous hat that Kym wore to the Derby. In response to Len’s criticism of the amount of Razzle-Dazzle displayed by Joey, he has decided to dance the waltz straight out. Wow. Fred Astaire look out. Man, for a big guy, Joey is exceptionally light on his feet. Bruno and Carrie-Ann like the Razzle-Dazzle so they were disappointed. Len loved it.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 26
(The lesson here is not to listen to Len).

Billy Ray Cyrus & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Foxtrot
In an effort to get one 8 before the end of the season Billy Ray promised to stay out of the choreography. And it showed. They did very well for the two of them. Billy Ray still seems way to stiff out there.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 6
Bruno Tonioli: 5 (Still no eights).
Total: 18

Laila Ali & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dance: Waltz
Laila had a special guest in the audience, her father, Mohammad Ali who they dedicated this performance to. The judges really liked their performance but Laila still had some problems with her posture which kept her from getting perfect scores.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27

Apolo Ohno & Julianne Hough
Dance: Tango
Apolo & Julianne had a real chip on their shoulder after the comments from the judges last week. Did they ever come back strong. I would have to say that was the most amazing performance of the season. Bruno and Carrie Ann were stunned with the perfection of this performance. Len hated it. According to him it lacked passion and was too busy. I have never heard the crowd boo so loud on this show before. Only Bruno shouting at Len was louder.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 8 (Boo!)
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 28

Round 2: Latin

Ian Ziering & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Rumba
This was a really good performance from Ian & Cheryl. Cheryl looked fantastic. The judge’s complaint tonight was that it didn’t look natural. Carrie Ann in particular pointed out that when Ian had this gorgeous woman was wrapping herself around Ian he was trying to look like it felt good but she didn’t get the impression that it really felt good. What are you trying to say Carrie Ann? Cheryl could wrap herself around me any day.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 25

Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson
Dance: Mambo
They seemed to be a little off from the music to me. Len congratulated them on dancing on the second beat. I don’t know what that means but that may explain why it seemed off to me. Bruno’s comment was the best though, “You pimped the Mambo!” Again I have no idea what this means.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9 (What was Len’s problem?)
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29

Billy Ray Cyrus & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Mambo
Billy Ray was actually dancing in this performance. He wasn’t good but, he gets an A for effort at least this week. The judges all agreed that he was entertaining as always but, the general conclusion was brother can’t dance. Billy Ray was pretty bent out of shape about the comments. He felt they were really rude.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 6
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 20

Laila Ali & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dance: Jive
They danced to Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. They did a great job telling this story. The judges loved Laila’s performance but busted on Maks for not putting enough content into the choreography (i.e., less theatrics, more dancing).
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26

Apolo Ohno & Julianne Hough
Dance: Paso Doble
Simply amazing. This performance had the razzle-dazzle that Carrie Ann and Bruno were looking for. My biggest complaint was the music, Oh my Darlin Clementine, was distracting. All three judges had nothing but good things to say about this performance so you can guess what their scores will be.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 10
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 30

Judges Leader Board
Apolo & Julianne: 58
Joey & Kym: 55
Laila & Maksim: 53
Ian & Cheryl: 47
Billy Ray & Karina: 38

Ian and Cheryl get my vote! They always look fantastic and give every dance their 100%. Ian is not a professional dancer like Joey Fatone, or a professional athlete like Apolo or Laila, so he comes to the show at a disadvantage to them. But yet he stays up with them in talent. A week ago he received six straight “9s” from the judges, so he definitely has the potential to win. I hope he surprises everyone by giving us his best performances in the next two weeks and capturing the trophy. If you like Ian and Cheryl, please do your part to vote for them on Monday — vote 4 times for each phone number and 4 times online. Also, Ian has really cool videos on his websites at http://www.IanZiering.com and http://www.MySpace.com/OfficialIZ and there you can sign up to receive his fun email blasts.

  1. Dancing with the Stars Predictions: Week 8 | Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined

[...] On this evening’s results show, we will find out which four couples have made it to the semi-finals. I’m pretty sure that the top three couples from last night have a lock already. Apolo & Julianne were just amazing last night. Joey & Kym and Laila & Maksim also had stellar performances but I would be shocked if Apolo & Julianne didn’t receive the judges encore tonight. If they don’t it will only be because of Len. Here is the Judges leader Board from last night’s show: [...]
