American Idol: Top 3

Woohoo! Here we go. It’s time for the American Idol Season 6 Top 3 to sing their little hearts out in an attempt to make it to the finale. With 3 song performances each it’s going to be a busy, busy performance night! Let’s take a look at what this week entails.

First off, do these performances really even matter? Has America already made up its mind on who the final 2 performers should be? Only 1 of the remaining Top 3 has already paid a visit to the center stage on Results Show night. That contestant would be, of course, Buh-bah-buh-lake “Beatboxer” Lewis. The other two performers, Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle have been top rankers from the start. So is this week’s performance show just a formality? Not necessarily, things could shift from the favorites, but it’s not likely and I’m not convinced it’ll happen.

This week there won’t be a musical guest like we’ve had in the past. Instead the trio of song selections are going to be made in the following manner: Song 1 is selected by the main judges, Song 2 is selected by guest judge Clive Davis (he’s gotta be challenging Nosferatu Phil Stacey for a undead record), and finally Song 3 is selected by the performer him or herself. I doubt if the judges will possibly try to sabotage any of the performers with their song selections. They’ll leave that to the contestants instead.

Blake Lewis

I imagine we’ll see quite the song battle between the closely related niche singers Jordin and Melinda. Blake Lewis on the other hand should have a clear field in which to play. As much as the judges encouraged him to hold back on the live mixing and beatboxing I doubt if we’ll see it vanish this week. His hardcore fans love that stuff, but it’s very polarizing to the rest of the audience. This style really represents the way he enjoys performing, so you know what, as much as I hate it, beatbox on Blake. I don’t think you’re long for that stage anyways, so go out in a blaze of beatboxing glory. You’ll get slammed for it by Randy and Simon, but avoiding it won’t likely save you either.

Melinda Doolittle Jordin Sparks

As far as the dueling ladies, I’ve consulted my very scientific poll here on wildbluffmedia.com and these two remain very close. Jordin does have a lead over Melinda which I expect is likely to be extended into the final week. These next few performances are obviously crucial for Ms. Doolittle to solidify what she has worked so hard for all season. If she can remain consistently strong in her songs this week and next she has a real shot. For Jordin it may just take one strong performance on her behalf in either direction to set the results.

Either way I’m excited to see what happens. My prediction, pre-performance show, is that this is Blake’s swan song week and these two lovely ladies will move on to the finale. From there my vision gets a little foggy, but that should lift as things heat up. Bring it on Top 3. Let’s go!

It was never announce last week who was in the bottom two. Blake may have been left standing with Lakisha but it was never specified he was in the bottom. Could have been Melinda or Jordin.

I suppose you could be right about last week. I assumed when they left Blake and LaKisha out in the middle that they were the bottom two.

But that was just last week. Don’t forget that Blake was in the bottom three just the other week as well (Bon Jovi week? I’ll have to go back and verify). So I’m going to stick by my assessment that Blake is the only remaining performer that has been out to the center stage for the final reveal.

Thanks for the catch though on last week’s results.
