Some people get excited about sports’ drafts, while I get excited about the next season’s line up of shows. Details continue to get rolled out by each network, but right now I’ve got the most details on the NBC shows. Today and tomorrow I’m going to dish out a few preview videos from four of the new shows which are part of the NBC fall 2007 line up. Today you get some clips from Bionic Woman & Chuck, along with show details. Last week I put out some initial rumors prior to the official release, such as the return of Friday Night Lights. Then on Monday I posted details about how NBC is going to handle all their Law & Order shows (hint: one goes to USA and one stays).

On to the new stuff. First up, Bionic Woman. Details from NBC.com:
Struggling as a bartender and surrogate mom to her teen-aged sister, Jaime Sommers didn’t think life could get much harder. But when a devastating car accident leaves her at death’s door, Jaime’s only hope of survival is through a cutting-edge, top-secret technology that comes at a hefty price.
With a whole new existence and a debt to repay, Jaime must figure out how to use her extraordinary abilities for good, while weighing the personal sacrifices she will have to make. Ultimately, it’s Jaime’s journey of self-discovery and inner strength that will help her embrace her new life as…The Bionic Woman.
So obviously it’s a re-hash of the 70’s sci-fi TV series starring Lindsay Wagner. I just got to see reruns by the time I came around, but I remember thinking the idea was cool back then even with the limited effects available. So taking that same idea and jamming it chock full of wholesome CGI goodness sounds like, well, more goodness to me.
This time around we’ve got Michelle Ryan in the role of Jaime Sommers. I don’t recognize too much of her acting history, but she was #4 on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women 2005 (good luck searching that one as FHM doesn’t seem to archive too well), so that’s gotta count for something, right? From the clips below it looks like they’re already giving her the anti-establishment attitude, which I don’t remember from the original, but that was a long time ago. The action looks pretty good, but will it be enough if the story or script doesn’t match it? Probably not, so let’s hope for good writers.
Either way, here are some clips from the upcoming series. The first one is a compilation of some action scenes plus some of that tough talk. The second video is an interview with the show’s Executive Producer, David Eick.

On to the second show of our discussion, Chuck, with more details from NBC.com:
Chuck Bartowski is just your average computer-whiz-next-door. He spends his days working for Buy-More with his band of nerdy cohorts, longing to find a woman who can appreciate him. But when an old friend, who happens to be a CIA agent, sends Chuck a mysterious encoded email, the world’s greatest spy secrets are embedded into his brain.
He never asked to become the government’s most powerful weapon, but the fate of the country suddenly lies in his unlikely hands. Hopefully, this won’t take away from his video game time! International terrorist plots, sexy spies and cold pizza – it’s all in a day’s work for our trusty hero…Chuck.
This one definitely sounds a bit sillier than the first and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to although it’s being billed as a drama instead of a comedy. But that’s okay as NBC definitely has their comedy ground well covered with The Office and 30 Rock (Yes! 30 was renewed as well!). I’m also hoping that when the description says “spy secrets embedded into his brain” they mean like ‘he has a photographic memory’ and not like ‘Johnny Mnemonic embedded‘. The clips don’t look too bad, but I don’t have a warm fuzzy feeling on this one just yet.
Considering how badly NBC wants to pull itself out of the #3 network spot I’m hoping we’re getting some quality series as part of their line up come fall 2007. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Check back on Wednesday for more details on the next 2 shows I’ll discuss: “Journeyman” and “Life”.
