Tonight on American Idol’s Results Show we’ll find out which contestants claims the #3 spot for this season and which two will move on to next week’s finale show. Earlier today I discussed my predictions on what to anticipate tonight and I’m standing by those expectations. Last night’s performances didn’t sway much from what we’ve grown to expect from each contestant over the season. Blake beatboxed, Jordin showed off her energy, and Melinda gave solid performances.
Although there was not a musical coach this week we’ll still get some guest performers. Tonight those performers will be Elliot Yamin performing “Wait for You” and Maroon 5 will be here to sing “Makes Me Wonder”. Other than that and the one reveal results I guess we’re going to get hit with a lot of filler material. Let’s see how it goes.
Well I guess it was unavoidable, we get lots of filler content tonight. The show takes a run back through the top 12 performers with a quick montage. Next we get a video reel of when Jordin Sparks went back home to visit her school and community events. It’s sort of an extended version of what we saw last night. Now we’re up to Jordin in the center stage with Ryan Seacrest. Ryan is giving her a run down on her songs and what the judges thought of each performance as though he’s building towards our first reveal of the night. Nope, just a tease, no results until later on.
Now we get a back home trip video of Blake Lewis. It’s filled mostly with crying teenager girls and his dad, also crying. Once the video is over it turns out that his dad decided to come up on stage as well. Ryan has to repeatedly ask him to go take his seat. Then, just like Jordin, Ryan pretends to start the first reveal by going through his performances from last night. But instead he asks Blake to take a seat so we could get to our first performance of the night.
Out on stage comes a very different looking Elliot Yamin and performs his song, “Wait for You.” It’s a pretty good performance and really shows off how much better he’s become as a singer since his turn on American Idol last season. This was a rather long song, but that probably goes back to the whole ‘60 minutes to fill’ thing. The judges even give him a mock round of commentary and they all praise Elliot for his performance.
The group video-mmercial tonight is “Everybody Wants You” and this time the car is the Fusion. Would Ford stop doing these if someone promised to buy one of their cars? It might only take one. Please.
Back to the action. Now it’s time for Ryan and Melinda Doolittle to talk about her. Her “back home” video takes her to Nashville where she gets showered with lots of praise and love. Then again, like last night, we see the reveal of Melinda Doolittle Way in her hometown by the Governor. Here we got with another run down of Melinda’s performances and what the judges thought of each round. Will this actually end in a reveal?… Nope, but as Ryan points out, they’re getting close.

Before we get results we get Maroon 5 with their song “Makes Me Wonder”. I enjoyed their last album, but I haven’t heard anything from their most recent work. Kinda surprising. Not too bad, but until I hear it more I think I liked the older stuff better. Oh, and I guess I hadn’t heard their new album being around because it isn’t until next week.
Alright, alright, here we go. All 3 performers: Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks, and Melinda Doolittle are out in the middle of the stage. First up is Jordin and out of the 60 million votes did she get enough? Yes, Jordin Sparks is going to the Top 2. Now we’re down to Melinda and Blake. Let’s see if I guessed it right. Ryan asked Melinda to step forward and reveals that… Melinda Doolittle is being sent home tonight. What a crock. Well that makes the guess for next week easy as it’s just been handed to Jordin.
The Top 2 performers for American Idol Season 6 are… Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis
It’s time for Melinda to give us her final performance on American Idol Season 6. You did great Melinda and I’m sorry to see you go. Looks like singing ability is quickly taking a back seat on this show.

Well I’m a little shocked despite the fact that I’ve been rooting for Blake and Jordin. I keep telling you, you need more than just great vocals to win, you need the whole package. While yes, Melinda was a great singer she didn’t have the personality and performance qualities needed to win.

Haha, I think this goes to show 12 year old girls are more dedicated to repeat voting than the rest of America.

*** “Well that makes the guess for next week easy as it’s just been handed to Jordin.” ***
Hmm, you sure about that? Your record on picking the person going home, doesn’t look very good lately.
We’ll have to wait and see won’t we? Lol.

[no worries, I fixed the double comment]

2 for 4 isn’t too bad for the past few weeks, especially considering even Blake fans said he’d be going home tonight (admit it Walt!).
Blake should think about sharing it with Sanjaya if he wins, and then they can ride away on unicorns to fantasy island!

Yes, it was a disappointment and shock that Melinda went home. I wanted to see Blake and Melinda in the final and Blake to win, but we assumed it would be Melinda. Jordin is a tremendous talent, but she still has some maturing to do, so we felt she would do fine, and the others earned the spot. I am tired of so many posters saying Blake only has teeny bopper fans — I am 47, my mother is 80 and we both love him. I am a singer, writer, pianist and producer and Blake is extremely talented, a very well rounded package, with a great and genuine personality. He does much more than beat box and I have noted his range very clearly — those who bash are not telling the truth, you simply have other preferences. Blake is a tremendous talent, as are the other two, and tonight would have been SO VERY exciting if Melinda didn’t go home…but I still am so happy for the well earned spot for Blake and wish him the very very best, with good song choices, delivery and no bias by the judges (ha). Try to enjoy the finals and know that I think just about everyone is bummed about Melinda but she is one classy, talented and spirited woman, and she may get more attention, actually, because it doesn’t seem right that she went home. God Bless you Melinda — and do well, Blake!

Glad you enjoy Blake. It’d be a boring show if everyone voted the same way.
Did you miss Blake’s back home video? I’d be hard pressed to say it was a diverse crowd that was squealing and crying for Blake.
Not sure why it’s “not telling the truth” for me to say I didn’t like Blake’s beatboxing, and of course that’s my preference. Beatboxing isn’t singing, it’s beatboxing. People do beatboxing as backup so someone can sing over it.
I think the judges are supposed to be biased, towards the best singers that is.
You seem to think that if people don’t like Blake’s style they are “not telling the truth” and when the judges say, “based on singing the girls should be in the final 2″ they are being biased. That’s certainly one way to look at it.
I definitely agree that Melinda will likely still do just fine. It doesn’t seem to really matter who actually wins each season anymore, just look at Hicks vs. Daughtry and Studdard vs. Aiken.
Either way, should be an interesting show next week.

Bottom line is all three are very talented and will get record deals…none are losers on that show at this point. My sister and I were discussing this last night…if any of them were to tour…who would we pay to see in concert:
Blake and Jordin.
