American Idol Stage

It just wouldn’t be American Idol without all the big events throughout the season. Some of them were shockers, or nearly shockers, some were hilarious, and some of them I could have easily done without. Today we’ll take a look at the first half of our Top 10 Events of American Idol Season 6. Then tomorrow we’ll let you see the rest of what made this season of American Idol so entertaining.

Here we go with our countdown, starting at #10…

#10 - LaKisha Kisses Simon
Somehow, after that chest rub, Simon managed to save some love to share around with the rest of the show. Right after LaKisha Jones’ redeeming performance of “This Ain’t a Love Song” during the second Top 6 Performance Show Simon told her he could kiss her after that. LaKisha promptly charged off the stage and planted a big kiss right on Simon’s lips. I think he enjoyed it! While I can’t encourage Simon to kiss all of the contestants, this display of affection earns this couple the #10 spot on our countdown.

#9 - Kellie Pickler Buys Some Shoes

Kellie Pickler Implants

Back on the March 1st performance show American Idol had an old friend come by to be a guest performer. Well it looked like the old friend brought some new friends as well. Kellie Pickler came out on to stage in a revealing blue dress which left little to the imagination. Ryan Seacrest was quick to ask if she had bought anything since her stint on the show. Kellie, not seeming to get the real question, replied, “shoes”, to which Ryan replied, “just shoes?” The next morning on his radio show Ryan continued to grill Pickler about a possible augmentation and she continued to neither deny nor confirm the procedure. Hmm, what do you think that means? I think it means Kellie Pickler has earned herself the #8 in the biggest events of season 6.

#8 - Haley Scarnato’s Disappearing Skirt

Haley Scarnato Legs

Coming in at #7 is the lovely Haley Scarnato who, despite her limited vocal talents, managed to stay around well into the Top 12 this season. Each week her skirt miraculously managed to grow shorter much to the delight of the male audiences everywhere. Sex appeal plays an interesting role in the show each season and I think this was a prime example. While Haley Scarnato was certainly not a bad singer I think most people were surprised to see her last until the Top 9. You can see this disappearing magic act and how it landed her in the #7 spot in our countdown with several of the photo sets available: Haley Scarnato gallery 1 & gallery 2.

#7 - Jordin Spark’s Fake-Out Vote-Off

Jordin Sparks Fake-Out

The Idol Gives Back show gave a lot to the audience as well that night. When it came time for the usual reveal the contestants, one by one, gave a sigh of relief. Well, not all of the contestants were relieved. The final reveal came down to Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks. Richardson had been having some trouble at that point and seemed a sure bet for being sent home. First Ryan Seacrest revealed that Chris was not going home, then he waited for the very dramatic pause as the audience gasped, and finally revealed that Jordin was not going home either. Jordin was holding a strong position at that point in the season and seemed destined to at least be in the finale. We certainly didn’t consider the possibility of no one going home that night. I thought this was a real stinker of a thing to do to Jordin and I’m surprised she didn’t slug Seacrest for that little trick. I think that was the first time in the season that the audience got a real shock and so it earns the #6 spot in our countdown of this season’s Top 10 Events.

#6 - Antonella Barba’s Photo Scandal

Antonella Barba Bed of Roses

Talk about the role of sex appeal and staying alive in this game. Only this time, going a little further than Haley (#8) in that game didn’t help her as much in this game. In the early weeks of the show somewhat racy pictures of Antonella Barba surfaced which ranged from her playing in the WWII Memorial fountain in a clingy, wet shirt all the way to her, um, sitting on the toilet. Yikes!

While this initial spike of interest took Antonella up to the most searched target on the Internet it didn’t last long and soon after Barba was voted off, just missing the coveted Top 12. Following her exit there was much speculation that she would soon be seen gracing the pages of Playboy, the screens of Girls Gone Wild, and pretty much anything else that involved little clothing. Antonella put a stop to those rumors quickly saying she wanted to strike while the iron was hot, but wasn’t willing to go the route of adult themes. That’s a smart decision Antonella, you should stick to what got you this far already, your great singing abilities. Wait. What?
