Last weekend we saw Spider-Man 3 continue its domination of the box office. Thankfully something has come along to knock it off its perch, Shrek the Third. This should be a good family friendly film and since most everyone is familiar with the storyline and type of movie this will be you probably already know if you’re interested or not. If you’re looking for something a little more adult oriented then maybe you’d be interested in last week’s 28 Weeks Later. Alright kids, enjoy your weekend! Thanks for stopping by Wild Bluff Media this week!
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, May 18 - 20.
Shrek the Third
Director: Chris Miller Raman Hui
Starring: Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy
Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Kids/Family, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Animation and Sequel
Duration: 1 hr. 33 min.
Rated: PG for some crude humor, suggestive content and swashbuckling action
Plot: When his new father-in-law, King Harold (John Cleese) falls ill, Shrek the ogre (Myers) is looked at as the heir to the land of Far, Far Away. Not one to give up his beloved swamp, Shrek recruits his friends Donkey (Murphy) and Puss (Antonio Banderas) to install the rebellious Artie (Justin Timberlake) as the new king. Princess Fiona (Diaz), however, rallies a band of royal girlfriends to fends off a coup d’etat by the jilted Prince Charming (Rupert Everett).
My Take: Despite some initial reviews that weren’t too fairy tale happy I’m still really looking forward to this one. They’ve added a whole new stack of characters that are voiced by SNL cast members: Amy Sedaris, Maya Rudolph, and Cheri Oteri. This looks like a no brainer if you enjoyed the first two films, but if you didn’t I can’t imagine this would be much different. Don’t expect the story to get wrapped up here either as the fourth Shrek film is already in pre-production. I won’t mind the big green guy chasing the almighty green as long as they make it worthwhile.
Shrek the Third Movie Trailer:
And that’s pretty much it for your weekend movie previews this time around. No one was willing to go up against the great beast and I don’t blame them. This should be a real juggernaut at the box office though I don’t expect it to crush the Spider-Man 3 record. Speaking of, if you haven’t seen that… DON’T! Ugh, awful awful awful. Unless you like watching a Gap commercial stretched into 2 hours and 20 minutes.
