“America’s Favorite Ballroom”

All right boys and girls, this is it! The finals! With the loss of Ian & Cheryl in last week’s Semi-Finals, we are down to the three couples who will be competing for this season’s Dancing with the Stars Championship:

Apolo & Julianne
Joey & Kym
Laila & Maksim

In preparation for the big finale the final three stars appeared on Larry King. Although I really like Larry (I do), he doesn’t typically ask the hard hitting questions you expect from most CNN journalists. For example, he asked them about each of the other stars who were all ready knocked out. Of course, everyone was very diplomatic and said nothing but nice things about them. They also brought out the professionals to sit with their stars. Larry asks each of them about how it was dancing with their partner. What are they going to say? They were all also very nice. At the end of the show Larry even did a little dance with Cheryl Burke. It was fun to watch but, I didn’t gain anymore insight into the competition this week or the relationships of the partners. Although Maks and Kym did get to plug their DVD (see below).

Tonight all three couples will be performing twice. First a ballroom dance of their choosing and then a freestyle round where the rules of ballroom dancing go out the window. All three of these couples have been incredibly strong all season long. Last week the judge’s scores were so close as to be almost irrelevant. Last week the fans completely controlled the fates of the dancers. I expect this week will be the same.

I have never been a big fan of Laila & Maksim. Their routines have never been as fun to watch. What I am really excited about tonight is seeing the freestyle routines of Joey & Kym and Apolo & Julianne. Kym and Julianne have come up with some awesome routines and creative choreography this season. When given a completely free hand in deciding what and how to dance, I can only imagine what they come up with.
