Despite Matt’s mediocre review of Spider-Man 3 I went to go see Spider-Man 3 this weekend anyway. I believe that your take on this movie will be based on your expectations going in to it. Matt had very high expectations and they weren’t met. Thanks to Matt’s review I had very low expectations and so mine were exceeded. Was this the best Spider-Man movie yet as some have claimed? No, certainly not but, did I enjoy it? You bet.
The movie was definitely longer than it needed to be. My son was of the opinion that they could have cut out all the “romance stuff”. I wouldn’t completely agree but they could have cut it down. There were some other totally extraneous scenes which I could have done without like when J. Jonah Jameson, the newspaper editor, has to buy a camera off a little girl for a hundred buck. It was funny but did nothing to advance the story. The action sequences were great as you would expect. I did not think they went too long like some of the ones in the Matrix Trilogy. Many people have complained that having three super villains in the same movie made the story too complicated. I would have to disagree especially in the end when it all comes together (sorry no spoilers here). I loved that part. Another complaint of have heard are the repetitive endings. This was nothing compared to Casino Royale, so that didn’t bother me either.
If you liked Spider-Man 1 & 2 and if you go into the theater not expecting the greatest movie since film was invented, you’ll enjoy this movie. It’s fun, action packed, and if its a little too long in some parts, that just means you have time to hit the bathrooms after drinking your gigantic movie theater soda without missing any of the action.
