The Bachelor, An Officer and a Gentleman: Season Finale

Tonight’s the night! Andy decides who gets a ring and who gets a broken heart. ABC is billing it as “The most romantic season finale ever.” Before he has to make his final decision, Andy brought both of the girls home to meet his parents, his sister, and his grandparents in Lancaster, PA. After which each of the girls had one final date with Andy to prove that she was the one for him.

Tessa’s Visit:
Tessa was lucky enough to go first which I always think is a benefit because you get to make the first impression and the other girl will be compared to you. Andy’s Mom liked Tessa and described her as “bright, poised, natural, and real.” She felt drawn to Tessa immediately. Andy’s grandfather who was a lovable old codger thought Tessa was, “A viable candidate.” The Baldwins interrogated her over dinner about religion, the future. Tessa felt she fumbled these questions but I think she did fine. Andy thought his sister would be the one Tessa would need to convince. Tessa and Andy’s sister spent some alone time together during which she asked Tessa about the reservations she had about the show early on and whether she would be willing to move to Hawaii to be with Andy. Tessa explained that her reservations revolved around the process not Andy and that when she was with Andy everything seemed right. Tessa was also more than willing to move to Hawaii. I think it was her sincerity more than anything else which swayed all of Andy’s family. In the end Andy’s sister gave Tessa a big thumbs up.

Bevin’s Visit:
Bevin started off her visit with Andy’s family with a bang. When Andy’s Dad asked what do you do? Bevin explains that she does research in clinical psychology and that she is currently working on a project regarding women’s libidos and sexual dysfunction. I’m not really too sure how well this sat with Andy’s very conservative family. Bevin’s answer to Andy’s Grandfather question about religion didn’t help. Bevin was brought up in the Baha’i faith. To which my first response was, “Huh?” From what little I can gather this is an Islamic sect which tries to unite the religions of the world. When asked what she liked about Bevin, Andy’s Mom replied her, “…laughter, gracefulness, eyes, and her affection for Andy”. I thought this was interesting because like Andy almost everything she said were physical traits not emotional ones. Mom thought Andy preferred Bevin because Andy just feels more confident that she likes him. Andy’s grandfather thought he liked Bevin because, “she turns him on” but, he asked, “is that what really counts?”

Bevin’s Last Date:
For the last two dates the trio returned to Hawaii. For their last date, Andy took Bevin on a helicopter ride over Hawaii. Very cool. Bevin about freaked before hand because she is so afraid to fly. Then after the chopper dropped them off, they hike down from the mountain. DO you think you would be happy here with me? No seriously what are your reservations? At dinner they were kissing and talking about their feelings and the future. One telling moment was when Bevin told Andy she was looking for reassurance and Andy replied, “I want to give it, but I can’t.” Bevin got “My Sweet Andy” a watch as a birthday present since he had given her one earlier in the season. Bevin told Andy that she loved him. He replied that he loved her too (Bad Andy, if you don’t pick her now your a jerk). Bevin is totally convinced that she is the one. I remember thinking, “Geez, if she doesn’t win ABC must have done a heck of an editing job.”

Tessa’s Last Date:
Tessa knew she had to really take this opportunity to show and tell Andy how she feels. They went for a horse back ride down the beach and then played in the water. Then they had a picnic on the beach as they watched the sunset together. Tessa told him how much she enjoyed being with him. Then they kissed some more. Later that evening, Tessa gave Andy a birthday present as well. Attached was a note which included the line, “I don’t want to go back to the life I was living before I met you.” This was a great opportunity for Tessa, she has always had a hard time telling Andy how she feels in person, so writing the note was good for her. After he read the note, Tessa broke down and told him how she felt. She told him that she loved him and wanted to stay with him. He told her he loves her too (Bad Andy, both of them? Dude that’s not cool.) That was what he has been waiting to hear from her; Everything he could have wanted and more. Maybe now he has the same confidence that she cares for him.
When he finally opened the present it turned out to be a special picture Tessa made showing their journey together. Andy was impressed by the sentiment and how much time it must have taken her to create it. All he could say was, “I frickin love you!” over and over again.
Both girls were a wreck before the ceremony. I hate watching this part of the final show every season. Sitting there watching knowing that one of them is going to be devastated.

Rose Ceremony

Bevin: Andy’s voice was cracking as he told Bevin that he loved her, she started crying before he even actually said it. Andy said it wasn’t a rejection but, “there is someone who has touched my heart deeper”. I feel bad for her because I think she really did love him and she expected to get the ring. After he told her, Bevin didn’t want to say anything to him. She was completely and totally destroyed emotionally. Andy your an jerk for telling her you loved her. Andy was upset too, but you know what? Too bad.

Tessa: (Called it!) Andy said, that she was, “Everything he has been looking for”. Andy got down on one knee to propose and she said yes! He even gave her the rose. At the during the quick interview Tessa was wearing his dog-tags.

Congratulations to Andy & Tessa!

Nice recap. I laughed out loud over all Andy could say was, “I fricken’ love you” over and over again.

ABC did an excellent job with editing. Before the episode, I was pretty sure Andy was picking Tessa, but after the dates with Bevin and Andy telling her he loved her, I starting having doubts. After Bevin’s final date, she said “There’s no way in hell he’s not picking me.” It was at that point that I started thinking that ABC was planting that tidbit to throw me off.

I wonder if Andy was really in love with them both? Was he initially in love with Bevin because he didn’t think Tessa would fall for him?

Poor Bevin, she was so sad. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to have the biggest rejection of your life filmed and displayed on national tv. I can’t blame her for her emotion and tears and I think she handled it fairly gracefully.

I think Andy and Tessa’s romance will last. Well, at least I hope so. I’m looking forward to tonight’s show to see what they reveal. I read in a Lancaster Pa paper online that Andy said that he has fallen more in love since the engagement and it has only gotten better.

They seem to get along really well. I think that deep down they have a lot in common which I don’t think he did with Bevin. Plus you know ABC edited it to make it look like Tessa was really unsure when it probably wasn’t that bad.
