American Idol Stage

This is it. The moment we’ve all been waiting for. Tonight one of the final two contestants will be named this a season’s American Idol. There can be only one…

Before the show, Wild Bluff Media had its special correspondent for the American Idol Finale Red Carpet on location in front of the TV in my living room. As you would expect the FOX folks spoke to Simon, Randy, Paula, Blake, and Jordin as well as previous idol winners and other FOX TV stars attending the big event. The most interesting interview was with Paula. When asked what she thought of this season, Paula responded by saying that it was a different kind of season, there were a few standouts but when she went home at night she couldn’t even remember who sang what. I can’t say she was wrong but for her to come out and say that! Ouch.

Tonight’s American Idol Season Finale was made up of live performances by the top 12 from this season, the previous American Idol winners (minus Fantasia), and some special guests. Paula basically spent the entire show on her feet dancing. In case you missed it (and you missed some good ones) here is the list of tonight’s performances:

- Blake and Jordin sang I Saw Her Standing There together.

- Gwen Stephanie performed her new single 4 in the Morning on location during her tour.

- Kelly Clarkson, performed her new single “Never again” Her dress tonight was much better than other times Ive seen her recently. I loved the boots. My wife didn’t like it. She was disappointed that the sweet little innocent Kelly Clarkson was gone. I like the edgy Kelly.

- Top six guys from this season performed together and they all sounded good, even Sanjaya.

- Smokey Robinson sang with the top 6 guys singing backup.

- Doug E. Fresh beat boxed with Blake That was cool.

Ryan with Jordin and Blake Kelly Clarkson Blake beat boxing with Doug E. Fresh Gina

- This season’s Top Six Girls did a song togther

- Gladys Knight performed a medley of her hits with the girls as her pips.

- Tony Bennett sang a song from his duets CD which was great. He missed his appearance earlier in the season because he was sick so it was good to see him up and around.

- Melinda Doolittle performed with Bebe & Cece Winan who she used to sing backup for. I ll be honest and say I have never heard of them before.

- Carrie Underwood sang I’ll Stand By You again which was the song she sang on the American Idol Give Back special.

- African Children Choir from the Idol Gives Back special performed again.

- Sanajaya performed You Really Got Me Now with Joe Perry the guitarist from Aerosmith. Suprisingly he hasn’t gotten any better, in fact that might just have been worse. They even brought back the crying girl for finale. I Hang on, I have to stop writing for a second while I stop my ears from bleeding…

- Green Day played John Lennon’s Working Class Hero.

- Taylor Hicks sang his latest single.

- Jordin and Rubin Studdard performed a duet of Your All I Need to Get By. I wasn’t a big fan of Rubin’s but this was really good.

- Bette Midler sang Wind beneath Wings. Oooh, this was not really good. Not good at all. Randy definitely would have said she was pitchy. She actually sounded like she was losing her voice during the performance.

- The final performance of the night was American Idol’s Tribute to the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper - Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood (She looked great in little black dress and platform heels), Rubin Studdard, then the the top 12 contestants from this season, each performed a song from the album.

Blake Lewis Jordin Sparks

In addition to the live performances they took time out to give Jordin and Blake each a new Ford Mustang (sweet.). Clive Davis came out and after rambling through a long winded speech chock full of flubs, presented Carrie Underwood with a special award for surpassing 6 million album sales in the US. The other big excitement of the night was the presentation of the Golden Idol Awards:

Golden Idols Awards:
Best Presentation - Margret Fowler - Boy she wasn’t shy. She went right up on stage and planted one on Ryan. She sort of looked like Big Bird after someone dropped an piano on his head.
Most Original Vocal - Sholandric Stallworth -He had a big voice. He sang Silent Night without the mike and they could hear him in the back of Kodak Theater.
Best Buddies - Jonathon and Kenneth (you know the bush baby). Kenneth forgave Simon for calling him a Bush Baby because, if Simon hadn’t called him that he wouldn’t be where he is today. Also nominated for this award were Ryan and Simon!

When all of the 74,000,000 votes that were cast last night were counted, this season’s American Idol was:

Jordin Sparks!

Jordin Wins!

From all of us here at WBM, we’d like to say, congratulations Jordin! You’re awesome.
