1Up and MyCheats.com has a great “superguide” for the upcoming release of Halo 3 on September 25, 2007 (Pre-order your copy of Halo 3 now). It gives you a beta look at all the details that are out there as of right now along with the promise of more info soon:
As we countdown the days before the final unveiling, the editors of the 1UP network bring you the SuperGuide of Halo 3 Beta, an ongoing analysis of the Halo’s game mechanics, from the weapons to the maps to team strategies. You, too, can help, by creating an account and writing your own strategies and tips. And, of course, you can expect a full SuperGuide of Halo 3 on the day of its release, with detailed multiplayer strategies and a complete walkthrough of the single player campaign.
The guide is built up from their work (play time) with the Beta releases of Halo 3. It’s rather thorough and includes information on all of the following: controls, equipment, weapons, maps, vehicles, models, medals, and ranks. I, of course, jumped straight to the weapons section and was well pleased. There are a lot of the old weapons looking to return (assault rifle, rocket launcher, shotgun, etc.) plus some very cool new ones like the “Spartan Laser”, minigun, and a new, dual wield weapon the “Brute Spiker”:

A new dual-wieldable weapon, the Brute Spiker falls somewhere in between the SMG and the Turret. It pumps out streams of metal shards, and you can usually find them two at a time. They seem to have a longer range than the SMG, perhaps doing slightly less damage despite the seemingly higher firing rate. They have a nice fat blade on the back too (those Brutes have a thing for them apparently), just in case anyone gets uncomfortably close to you.
Duel wielded Spikers are an incredible combo in up close situations. As an added bonus they pack a hefty melee punch, so even if you empty both guns and your opponent is still standing, you can still easily deal a death blow. The Spiker is definitely your friend when inside of a bubble shield. Rapidly hitting the B button as enemies come inside your bubble works very well.

Halo 3: First Impressions of the Final Installment | Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined
September 26th, 2007 at 9:13 am[...] The weapons have had a lot of upgrades than previous jump from H1 to H2. You can still dual wield, which is fun to keep constant shooting with one firing while one reloads. There are some new hand guns as well as rifles and such. My favorite new weapon so far in the game has to be the turret mini-gun which you can “detach” from its stand. So you fire away on unlimited bullets with it on the stand, then rip it off and walk around with a limit of 200 shots. It’s big and bulky though, so expect to be slowed down. You can check out all the other details here in this Halo 3 new weapon guide. [...]
