Pirate Master Banner

As this week’s episode of Pirate Master begins we get introduced to a few more personalities. Kendra is a bit of a daredevil (well you wouldn’t find me up there!) as she professes her love for climbing to the top of the masts. Then there is “Azmyth” (um, okay, sure) that claims to be a “jolly pirate” and he’ll be sure to look out for the best for all his fellow pirates. Nice shaving style on your beard there “Azmyth”. Now on to the first set of grumblings from the crew. They’re unhappy with their food conditions and I don’t blame them. Each crew member gets a few spoonfuls of gruel while the captain, Joe Don, and his officers receive an awesome breakfast of eggs with peppers and onions, some steak, bacon, and even fruit. That’s definitely a good bit rough of a deal and will only drive the wedge further between the have’s and the have-not’s.

The Zanzibar Chest
Here the teams are once again defined. The captain, Joe Don, will be on the Black Team along with his officers. The rest of the crew will be split between the Red Team and the remaining spots on the Black Team. Should the Red Team win this week they will select a new captain and JD will be back to crew status. Should the Black Team win again JD and his officers will remain in power.

Once the teams are split the pirates must first jump overboard and swim through shark infested waters (yikes!) and then hike the coast line to where they’ll enter the jungle. The leading team will have the opportunity to sabotage the lagging team. Next will be a difficult uphill climb towards a snake pit where they’ll need to find the tools necessary to locate the treasure. That snake pit doesn’t look good at all, no way!

Londonderry Bay

Turns out that Kendra, from the Red Team, isn’t the greatest swimmer and has to be dragged to shore by a teammate. This seems to really slow down the rest of her team as they have to wait for her. The Black Team reaches the sabotage point first and lets it loose. That turns out to be what looks like some bramble bushes and vines. Kinda weak actually. The Red Team is still on the beach at this point. Louie, Black Team, is having a real heck of a time with the steep climb. Once the Red Team reaches the sabotage point the guys come up and roll it out of the way. Black Team is already at the snake pit now and they spend a lot, a lot of time just looking at the snake pit. Seems like everyone is too afraid to get in there (and I don’t blame ‘em!). Finally Nessa, Louie, and Azmyth step up to the challenge and get in the pit.

So here comes this week’s drama. Joy falls down and bumps her knee. The whole team has to stop and gather around like they don’t have anything better to do. Someone even pours water over her knee. Hmm, great idea. Finally Sean picks her up and puts her over his shoulder and continues the race. Jay is ticked off because Joy is supposed to be an athlete yet here she is sitting on the ground slowing down the team. I certainly don’t blame him for his attitude considering the gold that is out there to be had.

Then comes what was sadly not a scandal. As the Black Team gathers round to open up the instructions for the second leg the video is clearly blurred out over the chests of two of the bustier female contestants. Apparently those skimpy halter tops were not enough to hold them in. Once we get past the wardrobe malfunctions the Black Team is on to the second leg of the competition. They must take the plate they recovered from the snake pit to a nearby altar. Then using the mysterious magnetic spoons also retrieved from the pit the teams will be directed towards the buried treasure.

So now the Black Team is on to the second part, but the Red Team is still hobbling behind Joy and her injured knee. Azmyth, Black Team, jumps right ahead and starts kicking leaves around looking for where the treasure may have been buried. The Red Team is finally to the pit and definitely get in there quicker than the Black Team. Here we go again with Christa and her blurred chest as she looks for treasure. It’s kinda funny and might will motivate the producers to give these ladies some better clothes.

While the Red Team is struggling in the snake pit Azmyth, Black Team, continues to kick around in the leaves. Lucky for him he comes across the treasure! The Black Team, the captain’s team, has won again this week securing his position for at least a few more days. Good for JD, bad for pretty much everyone else. But hey, maybe we’ll at least get some more goofy speeches at voting time this week where JD will tell us how to make a compass from a stick.

Port Dominica

Back on the ship the gold is dumped out on the deck and there is a lot! $45,000 of gold and sure enough half of that goes to Joe Don. JD decides, initially, not to share any of his half of the money. I think that’s going to really come back and hurt him later. The captain also decides to keep his existing two officers.

In the captain’s cabin JD makes a lot of remarks that won’t earn him many friends. JD asks “you guys got a shovel?” as he tries to haul all of his gold away. The crew members do a lot of grumbling, and whether it influenced him or not, Joe Don comes back to the members of the losing RedTeam and gives them each a few hundred dollars. It seems to have been too little too late here as several of them just got angrier at JD for this gesture. Speaking of disgruntled crew, it’s now time for the captain to pick who will receive black marks and therefore be placed upon the chopping block. JD gathers his advisers and the decisions are made.

Captain JD!

Black Spots:
1. Kendra
2. Christian
3. Joy (no kidding)

The Pirates Court:
Louie spends his evening going around rooting for a mutiny and says that anytime someone is ready for a mutiny so is he. What?? Um, what about last week when you had that chance and every single person turned it down. Christian takes up Louie’s call and says he supports him in attempting a mutiny. I don’t think this is going to work.

Kendra says that although she was slow in the water, she was fast on land and can continue to help. Joy pleads that her knee injury is gone and “it ain’t time for me to go yet”. Christian doesn’t hide his feelings, he goes right for the throat and says that they need a mutiny. Christian says that he’ll evenly share. Louie speaks up and says they aren’t getting enough food and the money isn’t split evenly. In his defense, JD says that Christian is digging his own grave and begins to detail how he has even shared his own part of the winnings. No one seems too impressed.

It comes down to the dagger time and everyone gets very dramatic with looking over their shoulders at their captain, JD. But it turns out that not a single person went for the mutiny. Not even Louie who got the whole effort started bothered to stand up for it and vote for a mutiny. Instead it comes down to a 5 to 4 vote. Joy is safe, but it’s either Christian or Kendra. This week’s pirate to be set sailing is… Christian. So once again, two weeks in a row, the pirate that calls for a mutiny at voting time has been sent home instead. That should certainly quiet the angry mobs.

Christian Pirate Master

Christian’s voyage has ended as he has been cut adrift.

This went a little better than last week, but I didn’t think the challenges were as good. That’s a tough thing to say since last week’s challenge wasn’t that great either. The challenges should really be a bit more complicated than “run up a hill, get a magnet, kick some leaves until you find the treasure”. Okay, Pirate Master, I’m still interested, but you need to pick it up a little!

Next Week:
Louie is out for revenge and already talking about how JD has got to go. Hmm, we’ve heard that from Louie each week now, yet not a single action on it. What do you think he’ll end up doing this time too? Jay decides to start bribing others with his own bribe money. Best of all, next week we’ll get the sabotage points back and it looks to be a nasty one for sure! Woo hoo! Uh, I mean, Arrgggh!

Will there be a website to download the full video of each show? I have looked but did not see one yet.

You can watch them online here:
    http://www.cbs.com/primetime/pirate_master/
(click on Video tab and then Full Episodes from the pulldown)

I’m not sure if there is somewhere you can download and save them though as they appear to be streaming.

The show has a lot of potential, but just needs to shed its first skin to get there.
