Apparently Isaiah Washington’s plans redeem himself through PSAs in support of gay rights wasn’t cutting it with ABC as he has lost his job as Burke on the hit series Grey’s Anatomy. The problems for Washington began roughly five months ago when he used an anti-gay term to describe fellow cast mate T.R. Knight. He then went on to use the slur again on television when he denied using it the first time. Smart.

Isaiah Washington released a statement through his publicist which said:

I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.

This comes as only somewhat surprising after initial rumors that Washington’s contract had been renewed by ABC. However, viewers of the series are likely not surprised considering the recent storyline with his character on Grey’s Anatomy. The May finale ended with the departure of his character, Burke, after a failed attempt at a wedding with Dr. Yang, played by Sandra Oh. Not sure how he didn’t see this coming.
