Weekend Movie Preview logo

It’s movie time again and we’re right back into our trilogy films series after a brief reprieve last weekend. While Knocked Up wasn’t able to dethrone the current box office champ, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, I think we’ll easily see a new king this time around. That would of course be Ocean’s 13 starring George Cloney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon (read our preview of Ocean’s 13). There will also be a good family film option with the CGI Surf’s Up (yep, we previewed Surf’s Up as well). Finally, you’ll also find a very non-family-friendly film with Hostel II. Now I love a good scary movie, but gore for the sake of gore doesn’t entertain me, so I’m going to pass on this one. If none of these movies interest you or you want to wait to avoid the Ocean’s 13 crowd then I would make a couple of recommendations from last week’s releases. Both Knocked Up and Mr. Brooks turned out to be pretty good films with the first one being a great comedy and the latter proving a worthy, dark thriller. Alright then, hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by Wild Bluff Media this week!

Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, June 8 - 10, 2007.

Ocean’s Thirteen

Ocean’s Thirteen (13)
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Starring: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon
Genre: Action/Adventure, Thriller, Crime/Gangster and Sequel
Duration: 2 hrs. 2 min.
Rated: PG-13 for brief sensuality.
Plot: Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and circles up the boys for a third a heist, after casino owner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) double-crosses one of the original eleven, Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould).
My Take: The first one was great but the second one was more cutesy and in love with itself (having Julia Roberts play someone pretending to be Julia Roberts??). I’m definitely interested in seeing this one, but am hoping it’ll return to having a good action filled story. These guys are supposed to be bank robbers so that means exciting stuff, not French guys dancing to their iPods to get around laser beams (Ocean’s 12). You can read more in our Ocean’s 13 Preview.

Surf’s Up

Surf’s Up
Director: Ash Brannon Chris Buck
Starring: (Voices of:) Shia LaBeouf, Zooey Deschanel, Jon Heder
Genre: Action/Adventure and Comedy
Duration: 1 hr. 25 min.
Rated: PG for mild language and some rude humor.
Plot: Based on the groundbreaking revelation that surfing was actually invented by penguins. In the film, a documentary crew will take audiences behind the scenes and onto the waves during the most competitive, heartbreaking and dangerous display of surfing known to man, the Penguin World Surfing Championship.
My Take: This looks pretty clever and cute. I don’t think I’ll see it in the theater as the demographics would likely make for a noisy audience, but I’d still like to see it when it gets released to DVD. Read more details in our Surf’s Up preview.
Surf’s Up Movie Trailer:

Hostel Part II

Hostel: Part II
Director: Eli Roth
Starring: Lauren German, Heather Matarazzo, Bijou Phillips
Genre: Suspense/Horror and Sequel
Rated: R for sadistic scenes of torture and bloody violence, terror, nudity, sexual content, language and some drug content.
Plot: Three young Americans studying in Rome set off for a weekend trip when they run into a beautiful model from one of their art classes. Also on her way to an exotic destination, the gorgeous European invites the coeds to come along, assuring them they will be able to relax and rejuvenate. Will the girls find the oasis they are looking for? Or are they poised to become victims for hire?
My Take: Wow, no interest here on my part. “R for sadistic scenes of torture”? No thanks. Feel free to let us know how it was if you go see it though.
