Taylor Hicks

Add author to American Idol season 5 winner’s, Taylor Hicks, resume. Going on sale this July 10 is Hicks’ memoir, “Heart Full of Soul“, an inspirational look at “finding your voice and finding your way.” Well, Taylor Hicks didn’t actually write it, that was covered by ghostwriter David Wild, but he did collect a healthy advance of $750,000 on the book, according to the New York Post.

Taylor Hicks provides a brief glimpse into the book on Random House’s website:

In Heart Full of Soul, I share some life stories that will hopefully inspire you—give you a sense of my philosophy and how it drove me. For example, I talk about my good friend who died in a tragic accident and the prediction he made that tugged at my thoughts throughout Idol’s qualifying rounds. I also discuss what it was like when I realized Eminem has it right: when you only have one shot, you’d better lose yourself in the music.

A lot of great fans lined up behind me the night of the Idol finale. This book is about the strange path that led me to that pop-culture moment, and the sharp directional changes that occurred after that phenomenal night, including touring America, producing an album, and experiencing that two-sided gig known as American celebrity.

I hope that some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way will help you, especially if the shot you’ve been yearning for is just around the corner.

I really could have done without the cliche and overused Eminem reference, but whatever he made 3/4 of $1M just as an advance so he apparently gets to say whatever he’d like. Considering the 272 pages “Heart Full of Soul” has to offer it sounds like he’s got plenty to say.

I’ve got the book on pre-order, both the hardcover and audio versions. This will be a major summer treat for me, to learn more about Taylor from his own perspective, the true ‘inside story’, so to speak. I believe he is a complex person who has experienced much in life, both positive and negative, and I look forward to reading whatever he chooses to share with us.

Wow, you’re quite a fan! I’m surprised we’re not seeing more of these memoirs from previous AI contestants. I hope it turns out to be a good read.

I’m looking forward to reading the book as well. I have read a few excerpts that are available and I want to read more. I think a good part of the attraction of Taylor Hicks is his genuineness and it comes through in his music. I believe it will come through in the book as well.

Matt, can’t tell if your answers to the posters are serious or snarky. I hope they’re sincere. Taylor has many, many fans who have already preordered both the hard copy and audio of this book. He has, believe it or not, quite the loyal following. He’s experienced an awful lot in his young life, a lot of heartache and obviously triumph and success. It will make for a very interesting read and I’m looking forward to the book and watching more chapters of his life unfold on this incredible journey he is taking us on.

    They were not snarky.
