The summer of sequels continues this weekend with the biggest release being Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (read our Silver Surfer preview) followed by a couple of interesting alternatives. Another one for the kids appears with what could easily be a franchise of its own, Nancy Drew, obviously based off children’s books. One that interests me because I enjoy these horror comedies is Fido, starring Carrie-Anne moss in this zombie flick. Finally comes what could easily be the worst movie of the summer as we detailed in our preview, DOA: Dead or Alive. Alright then, hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by Wild Bluff Media this week!
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, June 15 - 17, 2007.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Director: Tim Story
Starring: Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans
Genre: Action/Adventure, Comedy, Science Fiction/Fantasy and Sequel
Rated: PG for sequences of action violence, some mild language and innuendo.
Plot: The enigmatic, intergalactic herald, The Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. As the Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost.
My Take: Despite being a big fan of the beautiful Jessica Alba I had little interest in seeing the first Fantastic Four movie, but this one actually looks pretty cool to me. I like their selection of the Silver Surfer considering his backstory which should make for a great action movie. I suspect most people will be just fine for picking up the middle of the series, so I wouldn’t worry to much if you missed the first one. I was surprised by the PG rating which means we likely won’t get that topless Alba scene that we’re constantly denied.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Movie Trailer:

Nancy Drew
Director: Andrew Fleming
Starring: Emma Roberts, Tate Donovan, Max Thieriot
Genre: Drama, Thriller, Adaptation and Teen
Rated: PG
Plot: While accompanying her father on a trip to Los Angeles, teen detective Nancy Drew (Roberts) begins to put clues together that could unravel the mystery behind a movie star’s death.
My Take: This looks like a pretty simple, but probably entertaining movie for the young’ins. It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for there to be a Nancy Drew movie as it seems like a no-brainer. If this goes well they could easily keep making these for years even with a change in leading lady.
Nancy Drew Movie Trailer:

Fido
Director: Andrew Currie
Starring: K’Sun Ray, Billy Connolly, Carrie-Anne Moss
Genre: Art/Foreign, Comedy, Suspense/Horror and Thriller
Rated: PG-13 for sequences of zombie violence and gore, and comic horror situations.
Duration: 1h 31m
Plot: Welcome to Willard, a small town lost in the idyllic world of the 50s, where the sun shines every day, everybody knows their neighbor, and rotting zombies deliver the mail. Years ago, the earth passed through a cloud of space dust, causing the dead to rise with a craving for human flesh. A war began, pitting the living against the dead. In the ensuing revolution, a corporation was born: ZomCon, who defeated the legions of undead, and domesticated the zombies, making them our industrial workers, our domestic servants, a productive part of society.
My Take: I really enjoyed Shaun of the Dead, so I’m more than willing to give this similarly themed zombie horror comedy a try. The trailer makes it look a good bit sillier than Shaun, but that’s alright with me. I’m not sure if this one really needs to be taken in on the big screen, so I might just wait to catch it on Netflix, but I’m still very interested in seeing it.
Fido Movie Trailer:

DOA: Dead or Alive
Director: Corey Yuen
Starring: Jaime Pressly, Devon Aoki, Sarah Carter, Eric Roberts
Genre: Crap Action/Adventure and Adaptation
Rated: PG-13 for pervasive martial arts and action violence, some sexuality and nudity.
Plot: Four voluptuous girls, each with unique fighting styles, are invited to partake in the “Dead or Alive” world fighting tournament on an exotic island.
My Take: This looks like such a complete pile of crap. It wasn’t even supposed to be released and its main star, Jamie Pressly, even said she was relieved that it wouldn’t see the light of day. Well for some reason someone thought this might be a good idea. Wrong. You can check out all the horrific details of this box office disaster on our DOA preview. I’m predicting sub $5M for a release weekend earning. Take note in the trailer (if you make it that far) of their The Bodyguard ripoff complete with purple silk being sliced through just by falling over the katana blade. Weak.
