Hell’s Kitchen

Tonight’s episode of Hell’s Kitchen began with some introspection on the part of the blue team after their loss last week. Josh thought that Aaron needed to go home. Rock’s opinion was that Josh should stop trying to be the leader because they are all equals and Josh stinks as a leader.

Challenge
The teams were woken up early by a live rendition of Revelly. Aaron actually needed two of the other guys to help him get dressed and get down stairs in time. Hell’s Kitchen opened for breakfast for the first time ever to serve 50 soldiers and 50 sailors. Joanna thought the uniforms were sexy. While Julia had tears in their eyes. The 1st team to complete breakfast service would win the challenge. Julia was in her element and the acknowledged leader of the red team.

Some of the red teams plates were sent back with cold hashbrowns because of Joanna. The blue team was completely disorganized. Aaron was in charge of the omlette station, where he began by starting a fire and burning omlettes. Brad also had problems with cold hashbrowns while Aaron then moved on to standing around and doing nothing. Red team easily finished first at which point, Chef Ramsey sent Julia in to organize the blue team.

The girls received a helicopter ride to the USS Midway for a tour and a gourmet lunch. The blue team’s punishment was KP duty. They had to peel over 2000 lb. of potatos and onions. After carrying all of this in, Aaron passed out and had to be taken to the hospital. On Doctor’s orders Aaron was not allowed to return to the Hell’s Kitchen.

Dinner Service
The blue team agreed that Brad would lead them. Which he failed at but Rock stepped up to take the lead. The blue team had a tough night. They were a man down without Aaron (it could be argued they were a man down with Aaron). As the losing team, they also had to unload the water delivery truck during dinner service so they lost Josh while he delivered the water. Chef Ramsey let Vinnie have it for serving under cooked eggs, smearing them on his jacket.

The red team also had a difficult evening and they did some things which were genuinely disgusting. Joanna had a problem with the Risotto. Joanna licked the the tongs she was cooking with! Then Chef Ramsey found her using rancid crab. Jen pulled the spaghetti out of the garbage to serve! Thank God Julia stopped that and Chef Ramsey didn’t see it.

The night ended with both Jen and Brad burning their wellingtons. At this point, 2 hours into the dinner service customers from both sides of the restaurant began to leave. That was the final straw for Chef Ramsey. He shut the kitchen down.

Results
Chef Ramsey complimented Rock, calling it his “best night so far”. Brad received a disappointing comment of “was the best you could do as a leader?” Joanna and Bonnie were his targets on the red side. Chef Ramsey selected the red team as the losing team even though both teams did horrible. I suspect their team was selected more to keep the teams even than to punish the red team. Chef Ramsey made the red team come together and select their two nominees. They selected Julia and Joanna. But when the time came, Jen stepped up and claimed it was her instead. Jen then explained the garbage situation.

Chef Ramsey immediately sent Julia back. Chef Ramsey was definitely considering sending both Jen and Joanna home but in the end he settled on Joanna.

Joanna

Next Week:
The chefs compete in a blind taste test challenge, as usual, Chef Ramsey yells at people during the dinner service, and Bonnie reaches her breaking point. Will she be the next Aaron?

I think for the chefs to become better at what they do, they need to reach their breaking point. With the exception of Aaron, of course. I think Vinnie hit his point tonight and will really start to prove himself starting next episode.
