Age of Love

Anyone planning to watch NBC’s new reality show starting tonight, Age of Love? The premise is a 30 year old male tennis star, Mark Philippoussis goes on a dating show and discovers he’s about to be caught in the middle of two groups of women. The first group he meets are the Cougars: women in their 40s; the second group are the Kittens: women in their 20s. He’ll spend the season getting to know them and presumably down select each week as the show moves along. Ultimately he’ll be poised to select one lady overall. Will it be a Cougar or a Kitten??

If you watch the trailer below you’ll notice that these older women really don’t look that old at all. Otherwise it wouldn’t be too tough of a choice, now would it? It kinda sounds like an interesting idea, but I’m also thinking that it’s sort of a reality TV mash-up (check out Steve’s Reality TV Mash-Up ideas) where they took Average Joe and worked it in with The Bachelor. The Bachelor might not always end like you expect, but with Average Joe it’s no real surprise. Each season the girl picked one of the hunks, not the nerds, so why would this show be any different?

Kittens VS Cougars

I’m going to place my bet right now on a Kitten being selected as the winner. What do you think? Could a Cougar pull this off and beat out the Kittens? Those Kittens look mighty impressive, but to be fair the Cougars aren’t too bad either. Looks like a tough road ahead for Mark! Poor guy.

I’d love to see those ladies in their 40’s triumph. Mostly because those 20 somethings were so rude and obnoxious! Anyone watching could easily see those women in their 40’s handled themselves with class all the way! At least so far….

Very true. If Mark had to pick between them just on week 1 I’d really expect a Cougar to win. Things are going to have to change a lot for me to prefer the Kittens over the Cougars from what we’ve seen so far.

I’m kinda hoping the editors just played the Kittens up in a very negative way and that they aren’t really that bad in real. Otherwise that’d be rather embarrassing for them!

You’re right..so far I’m not impressed by them. What on the inside sure makes a person more attractive…and the opposite as well. If those 20 somethings are as they seem…they’re the losers of the bunch!
    Have a good weekend.

Typical sexist talk. I’m so friggin tired of older men/younger women being the norm…how it’s not even a blip on the radar when an older man is the love interest of a younger woman in a movie.. But if it’s the OPPOSITE, oh you can bet that the age difference will be a CENTRAL point of the story (i.e., Mrs. Robinson).

Even this idiot “Matt” guy who wrote the review above…reading between the lines of what he wrote…”could a cougar PULL THIS OFF…and BEAT the kittens?” As if to imply the odds are stacked against the cougars, simply BECAUSE they are older… He then says the kittens “look mighty impressive” but that the cougars simply “aren’t that bad either”. So already he is saying implying the kittens look better, when, if you REALLY look at them, the cougars overall are BETTER looking, BUT they also look OLDER. So again, this Matt guy (as well as our society in general) still has this notion that “younger” automatically looks “better”, when anyone with an open mind can see that between these two groups of women, the kittens aren’t “more impressive”, unless of course you consider “youthfulness” in and of itself, “more impressive”.

I am so glad that we are starting to see more older women with younger men. I (an older woman) don’t mean to knock the younger gals. What I’m getting at is…it’s time for the playing field to be more even. Why is it a non-event when an older man dates a younger woman, but when a younger woman dates a younger man, more eyebrows are raised? Also, who are these old men who think they “deserve” a younger, more attractive woman anyway? Most of these older guys look like shit, and do nothing to make themselves look good for the younger woman. Conversely, many of these “cougar” women do ALOT to keep themselves in shape, and looking good. If they did NOT, most younger men wouldn’t date them. But yet for some reason, younger WOMEN will date older guys who don’t look good. Oh, but that’s right…these guys are more “mature”, more “distinguished”… and that’s what makes them so attractive to younger women right? How unfortunate in this day and age that the same can’t be said for older women…that it can’t be enough for her to be more “mature” or “distinguished”. No, she also must be “hot looking”. Whereas the older guys can walk around with a spare tire, no fashion sense, hair sprouting from his ears, etc., and still “expect” to have an attractive woman on their arms! Incredible, that there is still such a disparity in how older men vs. older women are viewed by our society.

Dear “Idiot” Yip: “Can she pull it off” was the entire notion of the entire show. Statistically mates pair up in similar age groups so this show was intended to see if “the norm” could be broken.

If you took your head out of your ass long enough to read the comments you would have seen that I expected a “cougar” to win.

Don’t infer extensive concepts by “reading between the lines” to draw gross conclusions. It makes you look like an idiot.
