Surf’s Up is the tale of a young penguin, Cody Maverick from Shiverpoole Antarctica, who dreams of being a surfing superstar. He realizes his dream with the help of some friends: Chicken Joe, Lani, and the Geek. Along the way he also learns some important lessons about life as well as surfing.
Surf’s Up was not hysterically funny but there are definitely some parts that will make you chuckle. The story was good but totally predictable. There are no surprises or plot twists in this film. My favorite part of this film is the basic philosophy of life it drills home. If you live in an area like we do where everything the kids do, from sports, to scholastics, to who lost the most teeth earliest, is ultra competitive, the lessons taught by this movie will strike home. Basically, it isn’t winning but enjoying the activities you choose which counts.

The kids enjoyed it, but they’ll pretty much enjoy anything animated as long as they have popcorn and candy. This is not a must see film so don’t feel bad if you end up waiting for DVD to see it. But, if you need something to keep the kids occupied once they get out of school Surf’s Up is a great candidate.
