Don’t Forget the Lyrics Banner

Don’t Forget the Lyrics is the second game show to premiere this week which requires its contestants to know the sing the lyrics of a song. Singing Bee hosted by Joey Fatone premiered last night. Don’t Forget the Lyrics is basically Karaoke meets “Who wants to be a millionaire”. In the new tradition of Deal or No Deal and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader, FOX has chosen a well known comedian, Wayne Brady, to host the show.

Don’t Forget the Lyrics follows what has become the classic game show formula. The contestants must work their way up a prize ladder to reach the top prize. Unlike Singing Bee which only gives the contestants a chance to win at most $50,000, in addition to having a better set FOX has ponied up the big bucks with a maximum prize of $1 million. Once the contestants reach the $25,000 level that is the least they can go home with. Don’t forget the lyrics gives the contestants 3 backups (i.e., “life lines”): the can ask one of the family members they brought, check two of the words in their lyrics, or choose the correct lyrics from three possible lines.

The contestant chooses a category and is then presented with two songs to choose from. The contestant then must sing an entire verse of the song. All of the words are provided except for the last four. The contestant must sing the four missing words. They then have an opportunity to use their or walk away before they lock in their lyrics.

If the first show is any indication this show might just have some legs. It can be a little rough listening to the contestants sing but that’s part of the fun. Wayne Brady does a surprisingly good job as the host as well. I doubt it will reach the popularity of Deal or No Deal but it could last and it is definitely better than Singing Bee. If you get a chance this show is worth a watch or two.

I missed this, but there’s no way it wasn’t better than Singing Bee. That was seriously the most disastrous crap I’ve seen on TV in a long time. What the hell were they thinking?

This has the be one of the stupidest shows I have ever seen. I thought tonights show was their season premier and that it wouldn’t last through one take. Now I find it has been going on for months and PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKE IT! The only thing good about it is Wayne Brady but even he seems to be lacking on the improv. The whole suspense thing is shot when you know damn well what the answer is. And it’s obvious if the contestant is confident or not. Yet they still try to add suspence by talking or going to a commerical. Absolute crap.
