“The X-Files” ran on TV from 1993-2002 and even managed to squeeze out a not-too-shabby movie in 1998. Since then things have been pretty quiet on the UFO front for Mulder and Scully. However, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that actor David Duchovny is expecting the script to a movie sequel very soon:
Duchovny said he is supposed to see a script in a week or so. Chris Carter has written it with Frank Spotnitz, Carter will direct, and Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are committed to the project. And Duchovny sounded excited about the film.
I’m glad to hear that both Carter and Spotnitz, the original X-Files writers are back on this one to help with a feeling of consistency. But I’m actually pretty surprised that both Duchovny and Anderson are tied to the project. I’d be willing to guess it’s a contractual obligation rather than of personal interest. After so many years of The X-Files I would think these actors would be ready to move on. But hey, I’m just happy to have some new news on this front. Just like the truth, I had a feeling this sequel was out there.

It would definitely be awesome. I can’t believe it’s been nearly ten years since the first movie. It seems so random for them to try and return to it now, but hey, I’ll take it.
