It is time for the weekend again, so here are your weekend movie previews for July 20 - 22, 2007. No more sequels, just good wholesome entertainment. You’ve got a good run of options to select from, including a comedy, sci-fi thriller, teen slasher horror, and some completely unnecessary musical remake starring a finally liberated John Travolta in drag. That’s interesting because Scientology doesn’t believe in homosexuality. Then again they don’t believe in autism either, which sucks for Travolta’s autistic son. Your comedy option, Chuck and Larry, runs for nearly 2.5 hours which means you’re likely to get more of a “thinker” comedy than a silly, happy one. The sci-fi thriller, Sunshine, looks very awesome and that’s what I’m planning to see right away. The horror flick, Mandy Lane, doesn’t look too bad either though. So, what are your movie plans for this weekend?
Here are all your movie details & trailers for this weekend, July 20 - 22, 2007.

Sunshine
Starring: Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans
Director: Danny Boyle
Genre: Adventure / Sci-Fi / Thriller
Duration: 1hr 47mins
Rated: Rated R for violent content and language.
Plot: Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress beacon from a spaceship that disappeared seven years earlier. Soon the crew is fighting not only for their lives, but their sanity.
My Take: Holy Crap! This movie looks awesome! I love me some sci-fi space goodness. Watch the trailer and you’ll notice they are on “Icarus 2″. So what happened to “Icarus 1″ you ask. Ah hah. Could this be another Event Horizon (one of the best space horror movies ever)? Danny Boyle definitely brought home the bacon with the horror in 28 Days Later and I’m really hoping he can do it again with Sunshine. This one is sneaking into theaters as the release date kept being shifted around. The more I search around this looks to be a limited release. A few places say wide release and a few others say limited. Grrr…
Sunshine Movie Trailer:

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Jessica Biel
Director: Dennis Dugan
Genre: Comedy
Duration: 2hr 20mins
Rated: Rated PG-13 for crude sexual content throughout, nudity, language and drug references.
Plot: Two Philadelphia firefighters — Larry (James), a widower with two kids, and Chuck (Sandler), a consummate ladies’ man — pretend to be a gay couple in order to receive domestic partner benefits. They face a series of challenges in order to maintain their ruse, the toughest being Chuck’s feelings for the lawyer (Biel) who’s representing them.
My Take: King of Queens stunk, but Kevin James paired with Adam Sandler could be pretty good. Toss in Jessica Biel and you’ve got my $10.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Movie Trailer:

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane
Starring: Amber Heard
Director: Jonathan Levine
Genre: Horror
Duration: 1hr 28mins
Rated: Rated R
Plot: A group of high schoolers invite Mandy Lane (Amber Heard), a good girl who became quite hot over the summer, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to drop quite mysteriously.
My Take: This looks to be another teen slasher flick. Can it rekindle the glory days of Scream and the rest of them? That’d be nice.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane Movie Trailer:

Hairspray
Starring: John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken
Director: Adam Shankman
Genre: Musical
Duration: 1hr 57mins
Rated: Rated PG for language, some suggestive content and momentary teen smoking.
Plot: Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad (Blonsky) teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.
My Take: John Travolta dressed up in drag? Pass. The original never interested me and a Scientology star won’t interest me in a remake either.
